Don MacDonald

1933 - 2016

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Donald Archibald MacDonald in Taber on Monday, July 4, 2016 at the age of 83 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 7:00 P.M.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.

Don was born on the family farm in Frasers Mills, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia on February 4, 1933. He was an alumnus of St. Francis Xavier University, served with the Canadian Navy, started his financial career with the Royal Bank of Canada and was employed by various other financial institutions.

An adventurous soul, he also made his mark at various sales positions, worked his way up the oil patch and particularly shone in a twenty plus year career in aerial photography. Having an unpretentious outspoken manner, sense of humour and welcoming spirit, he made many friends wherever he went.

His entertaining ways and quick wit will be missed the most by his wife Terry MacDonald (nee Whalen), daughters Karen (Peter) MacDonald-Verwer of Stirling, Margaret (Scott) Stauth of Calgary, Joanne (Glen) Mazza of Rocky Mountain House and sons Stephen MacDonald of Raymond and Michael MacDonald of Taber. He cherished his four grandchildren Lindsey (Delmar) Donnelly, Megan Stauth (Alex), Andrew Mazza and Alyse Mazza and one great grandchild Hudson Papadoulis. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Malcolm MacInnes; sisters-in-law Genevieve MacDonald, Anne-Marie MacDonald and Dorothy MacDonald. He will also be fondly remembered by the entire Whalen family and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Esther MacDonald, sister Marie MacInnis, brothers James MacDonald, Joseph MacDonald, Ronald MacDonald and infant grandson Anthony Mazza.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Don's name may be made directly to the Taber and District Health Foundation, 4326 - 50 Avenue, Taber, Alberta T1G 1N9.

The family is forever grateful to Dr. Jeffrey Hughes and the wonderful staff at the Taber Health Centre.
