Caroline Bernice Abell, beloved wife of the late Walter Abell, passed away at the Lethbridge Extendicare on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the age of 88 years. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, July 22, 2010 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be held at Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Alana Johnson officiating. Bernice is survived by her daughter Florence Smith of Taber and her children Leona, Marjorie, Christine, Vaughn, Rodney and their families; her daughter-in-law Correen Abell of Taber and her children Marsha, Claudette, Lynn and their families; her son Ronald (Corrie) Abell of Taber and their children Susan, Ryan and their families; her daughter Carol (Don) Mc Lean of Fort Macleod and their children Jerry, Roger, Lori and their families; her son Phillip Abell of Taber and his son Sheldon; her daughter Esther (Don) Hoerle of Innisfail and their children Dayle, Trina and their families. She is also survived by a sister, Ruby Danforth of Taber and by numerous family throughout Canada and the United States. Gladys Anna Addy, beloved wife of the late Tom Addy, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, December 28, 2009 at the age of 75 years. Gladys is survived by her children Harold (Cheryl) Addy of Taber, Heather (Doug) Kunz of Lethbridge, Holly (Richard) Eaves of Coaldale and Trevor (Pauline) Addy of Calgary; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Margaret Webb and Ruth (Kay) Holman; two brothers Norman (Gerry) Frasch, Elmer (June) Frasch and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Tom, her loving husband of fifty seven years; two sons, Greg and Todd; her parents William & Jeannie Margaret Frasch; a sister Phyllis Anderson; two brothers Robert Frasch, Joseph Frasch and a brother-in-law Albert Webb. Gladys was born March 23, 1934 in Surprise, Saskatchewan to William & Jeannie Margaret Frasch. Gladys later moved to Taber where she met and married the love of her life, Tom Addy. Together they farmed for 55 years. Their last two years were spent in Lethbridge at the Alberta Rose Lodge were they resided together until Tom’s passing on November 18, 2009 and now Gladys, just a few short weeks later. Gladys belonged to the Eastern Star, Order of the Royal Purple and was also a very active Bridge player for several years. She was a kind, generous and caring person and her home was always open to feed anyone who stopped by. She also had many talents such as sewing, gardening and did a wide variety of crafts which we all got to share. Gladys had a dog kennel called Elmtree Kennels in which she bred, trained and showed dogs. She also groomed and boarded dogs. This was one of her many passions. Another passion was bowling. She belonged to the ladies league and mixed league and also coached the youth group. Mom and dad bowled both in Taber and in the Lethbridge leagues. She had a wall full of plaques that she had won along with several trophies and ribbons. With her husband and their excellent skills in bowling, they were able to afford many trips to places such as Florida, Ontario, Newfoundland and Vancouver. We will miss our mom and grandmother but take comfort in knowing that she is at rest and is with her husband and sons. The family of Marlin Reece Anderson is saddened at the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Marlin was born December 8, 1931 in Barnwell and passed away peacefully in Taber on November 25, 2009 at the age of 77 years. Marlin is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joan (Selk) and his four children, Kip (Susan) of Kingman, Arizona, Karen Irwin of Barnwell, David (JoLynn) of Mesa, Arizona and Thomas (Brittney) of Mesa, Arizona. He will be sadly missed by his fifteen grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Marlin is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Baker and his sister-in-law, Carma Anderson both of Barnwell, his mother-in-law Marjorie Selk of Lethbridge and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including his in-laws from the Selk Family and the Einar Jensen Family. Marlin was predeceased by his father Hillman Anderson and his mother Myrl Johnson Jensen, his brothers Melvin, Kenneth and Dennis and his father-in-law, Virgil Selk. Marlin was born and raised in Barnwell. He lived most of his life in this community, serving numerous times on the Village Council and once as Mayor. He graduated from the U of L in 1975 with a B.Ed and taught for eighteen years in the Taber area until his retirement in 1993. He was a great supporter of high school athletics and had a passion for cars, golf, music and his family and many friends. He was generous and kind, and loved by all who knew him. Marlin lived a Christ-centered life and many will remember him for his powerful voice and ability to teach the Gospel. He loved to teach from the scriptures and to share his testimony of Christ’s divinity and the Plan of Salvation. As a young man he served a mission to Denmark and later served with his wife in the Texas Dallas Mission and in the Alberta Temple. He served as Bishop of the Barnwell Ward and in the Taber Stake Presidency. Thomas Harold Addy, beloved husband of Gladys Addy of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the age of 80 years. Besides his loving wife Gladys, he is survived by his children Harold (Cheryl) Addy of Taber, Heather (Doug) Kunz of Lethbridge, Holly (Richard) Eaves of Coaldale and Trevor (Pauline) Addy of Calgary; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by Gladys’ sisters and brothers-in-law and by his cousin Ken (Bev) Bateman of Calgary. He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Georgina Addy; sons Greg and Todd. Tom was born in Lethbridge on September 4, 1929. He farmed and raised his family in Taber. Tom met the love of his life, Gladys Frasch and they were married October 13, 1952. He was a member of the Masons, Elks and Moose. Along with farming and raising a family, Tom also served on the Taber Hospital Board for twenty three years and was the Returning Officer for the Taber/Warner area for thirty three years. He enjoyed bowling and won several medals and trophies over the years and also coached the junior league with his wife. Their bowling skills afforded them many trips such as Florida, Ontario and Newfoundland. Tom had a passion for gardening, especially his tomatoes which he loved sharing with his friends at the lodge. He enjoyed many hours on his computer playing games or putting photo albums together for his children. Tom was also known for playing many pranks, one in particular where he would glue a loonie to the sidewalk and sit back and watch people try to pick it up. We will miss our dad, grandfather and husband but take comfort in knowing he is at rest and is with his sons and his dog Charlie having a great time. Shawn Patrick Anderson, beloved husband of Paula Anderson of Taber, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the age of 36 Years. A perfect dad, husband, son, brother, friend and coach - Shawn left us unexpectedly on Thursday morning. Shawn leaves to mourn his wife Paula and their two children, 8 year old Brett and 4 year old Mackenzie; his parents Nancy & Harvey Anderson of Taber; sister Michelle (Derek) Anderson of Brisbane, Australia; brother Chris (Christie) Anderson of Strathmore and their children Wyatt & Bo; brother Dallas (Jennifer) Anderson of Strathmore and their children Jack & Joe. He is also survived by his father-in-law Harold (Darlene) Winter of Burstall, Saskatchewan; sister-in-law Penny (Patrick) Buye of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and their children Mercedes & Mitchell; brother-in-law Todd (Deana) Winter of Medicine Hat and their children Brody, Brooklyn & Blake as well as by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Jack & Mayme Anderson and Lowell & Emma Arntsen, cousin Dean Anderson, nephew Luke Anderson and by his mother-in-law, Judy Winter. Shawn was an avid sportsman playing hockey, curling and golf. He was a great listener and he taught the whole family to hug and love. Everyone loved Shawn and he loved his work and his work “family”. He was a champion at Sing Star and Karaoke and he was dedicated to coaching hockey, ball and soccer. Shawn always had a smile on his face for everyone and never judged anyone. All who knew Shawn loved and respected him and he will be sorely missed by thousands of family and friends. Agnes Mary Appleton, beloved wife of the late Albert Appleton, passed away in Lethbridge on Monday, February 2, 2009 at the age of 92 years. She is survived by her daughter Sharon (Roy) Spooner of Lethbridge; grandchildren Dianne (Peter) Rajcic and Tim (Christina) Spooner all of Lethbridge; great grandchildren Zachary and Zane Rajcic; Sarah, Kieran and Colin Spooner. Agnes is also survived by her sister Catherine (Rex) Brown; brother Jim (Geri) Rutherford; brother-in-law William Bellman; sisters-in-law Vivian Kinniburgh and Lois Appleton as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Albert; parents Annie & David Kinniburgh; step-father George Rutherford; brothers Joseph (Nell) Kinniburgh and David Kinniburgh; sisters Jean (Henry) Mulner and Margaret Bellman; brother-in-law Robert Appleton. Agnes was born April 20, 1916 in Purple Springs where she was raised and educated. Following her school years, Agnes worked as a cook on a sheep ranch. In 1938 she married Albert Appleton at St. Theodore’s Anglican church in Taber. In 1944 Agnes and Albert were blessed by the birth of their daughter Sharon. They lived on their farm just south of were Agnes grew up. Agnes was involved with Kinniburgh Women’s Institute for many years, in which she held many offices including secretary and treasurer. She was also active in the Eastern Star, Rosalon Chapter in Taber. Agnes was proud of her garden where she grew raspberries, strawberries, many different types of vegetables and lots of flowers. In 1974 Agnes and Albert retired to Taber. Following Albert’s passing in 1992, Agnes moved to Lethbridge where she has resided until her passing. Elsie Astalos, beloved wife of the late Andy Astalos Sr., of Taber, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at the age of 84 years following a seven year battle with Alzheimers. She is survived by her daughter Irene (Harold) Edwards of Taber; son Andy (Judy) Astalos of Hinton; son-in-law John DeBona of Taber. Grandchildren Debi (Blake) Fletcher; Tracey (Malcolm) Howells; Rhonda DeBona; Denise (Paw) Pederson; Danny (Lisa) DeBona; Brad Edwards; Michel (Daniel) Johnson; Ryan, Samantha & Megan Astalos. Great grandchildren Travis & Paige Fletcher; Colton & Kassidy Howells; Jazlyn, Wyatt & Jett Pederson; Taia & Vinnie DeBona; Jadden Johnson. She is also survived by numerous extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, sisters and three daughters, Veronica & Linda Astalos and Margaret DeBona. Elsie was born in Hungary on September 17, 1924 to James & Elizabeth Dorogdi. Her parents came to Canada without her and her sisters to find work and settled in the Taber area. Two years later when Elsie was four, she immigrated with two of her sisters and an aunt by boat and train. After arriving in Canada, the three girls age four, six and eight got lost in Toronto. Seeing that they were unable to speak english, this was a terrifying experience for them and also their parents. After two weeks searching for the girls, they were located and James & Elizabeth were happy to have them in Taber. Elsie married Andy Astalos in 1941 and they farmed in Taber until 1967 when they moved to town. Elsie began working at KFC in 1974 and a few years later became store manager. She worked until 2001 at the age of 76 years and only retired due to ill health. She loved her job and enjoyed the regulars coming in everyday to eat and have coffee. She loved to visit and joke with everyone. Elsie loved to travel with her sister Ester through Europe, Alaska and the United States. Most of all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending the holidays together and sharing a big meal! Elsie will be lovingly missed and fondly remembered by her family who loved and adored her. Michael Antoniuk, beloved husband of Bernice “Bea” Antoniuk of Taber, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the age of 80 years. Besides Bea, his loving wife of more than fifty years, he is survived by his sons Mike Antoniuk Jr. of Red Deer, Brad (Carol) Antoniuk of Taber and by three grandchildren, Ryan, Joshua and Carlynn. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary and Sophie and three brothers, Tony, Leslie, Fred and their families. Mike was born September 15, 1927 on the family farm north of Sturgis, Saskatchewan to John & Sadie Antoniuk. He attended Brookview School from 1933 to 1942. After helping on the farm, Mike worked for neighbouring farmers and for the The Pas Lumber Company until returning to help his brothers on the family farm. He married Bernice Yacyshyn in August of 1957. They worked in Kelvington and The Pas where their first son Mike (“Percy”) was born in 1960. Two years later they moved to Canora, Saskatchewan where Mike & Bea purchased the Pine Grove Motel. In 1964, their second son Brad was born. In 1974, they sold the business and moved to Taber where Mike worked for various businesses until his retirement. Mike & Bea’s retirement years were spent travelling in their motor home. They enjoyed visiting friends & family and entertaining visitors. Mike will be remembered for his sense of humour, enjoyment of fishing, having coffee with friends, keeping up to date on his children’s & grandchildren’s activities and his love of traditional Ukrainian food and celebrations. A Prayer Service will be held at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, February 22, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Irene Anctil. Irene passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 30, 2007 with her family by her side in the Palliative Care Unit of the St. Michael’s Health Centre. Irene will always be lovingly remembered by her four children: Ted, Terry, Debbie (Kevin Dunn), and Al (Wendy Takeda). Irene adored her six grandchildren: Amber, Lindsay, Aaron, Sarah, Emily and Kate. To them she was “Grammie”. The Anctil family would like to acknowledge her special friends, Donna Wetterstrand, Jerry Smith (Madeline) and the late Olga Smith (Uncle Jerry and Aunty Olga) who were an important part of her life. Irene will be sadly missed by a brother and four sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was born near Delph, Alberta in 1932, where she grew up on the family farm and later met and married the late Paul A. Anctil in Edmonton. After they were married they spent some time in Edmonton and the Crowsnest Pass before settling in Lethbridge where Paul became a Firefighter, and then together in 1962 they started Southern Monument Company Ltd. Irene worked along side of Paul and sons Ted and Al for many years. Irene was a devoted business woman up until her passing. In her spare time Irene loved to sew, do crossword puzzles, and enjoyed her scratch lottery tickets. She also loved to travel. Mom also made the best coffee cake and apple pie in the whole world. In her usual spirit, Irene kept her sense of humor until the end giving great comfort to her family. Harold Jay Ayers, husband of the late Patricia M. Ayers, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2007 at the age of 72 years. At the time of his passing, he was residing in Taber Continuing Care. He is survived by his daughters; Bev (Bill) Firth, Brenda (Dwaine) Gould and Karen (Brett) Durant all of Taber; sons, Robert (Sandy) Ayers of Kimberely, B.C. and Ronald (Susan) Ayers of Taber; his sisters Bev (Lea) MacDonald of Lethbridge and Barbara (Joe) Hajek of Taber; grandchildren Alvena Turnbull, Darrell Kast, Dawn Kast, Nikki Gould, Aaron Ayers, Jasmine Kilborn, Samantha Ayers, Dorian Ayers, Cody Durant, Jeremy Durant; step-grandchildren Brad Firth (son Mikenson), Chris Firth (Lana, sons Zachary, Xander) Tyler Firth (Gail, sons Jayden, Landon, daughter Brittany), Darcy Firth (Carly), Darren Firth (Megan, sons, Rylan, Tyson, Braden, stepdaughter Hailey), Cameron Firth, Jerry Firth (Tammy), Devon Firth (Cherlyn, daughter Matayla); great grandchildren Michael Kast, Marissa Kast, Donovan Kast, Clayton Kast and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Julia Astalos (nee Vas) of Taber, beloved wife of the late Mr. James Astalos, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at the age of 96 years. She is survived by her children Joe (Anne) Megyes, Alex (Anne) Astalos and Margaret (Dave) Duggan all of Taber, Elizabeth (Alex) Forsyth of Viking and Mary (Bob) Swain of Calgary; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. Julia was born at Kisterenye, Hungary on October 25, 1910. She immigrated to Canada in July of 1928 and settled on a farm near Taber. Julia was predeceased by her first husband Charles Megyes in 1937 and by her second husband Jim Astalos in 1977. Relatives and friends are invited for Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006-48 Ave., Taber on Monday, March 19, 2007 at 7:00 P.M. Mr. Dean Albert Anderson, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Maydell Anderson, of Taber, passed away at home on Friday, March 25, 2005 at the age of 81 years. Dean was born July 5, 1923 at Barnwell where he also received his schooling. He served with the RCAF during WWII. On November 8, 1946, he married Maydell Edwards of Taber. Together they farmed at Barnwell, Fort Macleod, River Bend and finally east of Taber where they raised their family and where Dean made his home until the time of his passing. He cherished his friends and the time spent on "coffee row" and at the card club. Dean is survived by his five children and their families, Deanna (Laurence) Eldridge of Taber and their children Rebecca, Pamela (Jason) Matthews, Dana (Mark) Evans and Shauna; Reg (Brenda) Anderson of Burnaby, B.C. and their children Charles (Mandy), Kirsten (Glenn) Christensen and Kandice (Rob) Titerlie; Jolayne (Don) Onofrychuk of Lethbridge and their children Brent (Shelly), Bradley (Heather), William (Annette), Jennifer (Justin) Davis and Kenneth; Janis (Frederick) Clark of Strathmore and their children Johnathan, Catherine (Danny) Gonzales, James, Jeffrey, Christina and Jeremy; Veneta (Douglas) Cooper of Stirling and their children Dallin, Rylan, Rachel and Cole. Dean will be remembered as "Big Papa" by twenty great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Rex (Joanne) Anderson of Barnwell, his sister Gladys Davidson of West Vancouver, B.C., his sister-in-law Doreen Anderson of Barnwell and by Maydell's family, his brother & sisters-in-law Eldon & Mary Edwards of Lethbridge, Donna Valgardson of Taber and by numerous nieces and nephews. Dean was predeceased by his wife Maydell, his granddaughter Caroline Clark and by two brothers, Heber and Boyd. Mr. Kenley Dale Asplund, beloved husband of Mrs. Bev Asplund, of Taber, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at the age of 70 years. Kenley was born February 12, 1935 in Lethbridge and was raised in the Barnwell and Taber Area. He lived in Taber until his passing. The last twenty-five years of his career were spent in agricultural retail working for Agri Fertilizer under president Norman Nakamura, and manager Peter Asplund. The company later became Southern Agri. He then worked under general manager Rob King, and manager Derrick Krizsan. After retiring in 2001, he enjoyed working in his yard and garden. His main interest was helping his boys along their path. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Besides his loving wife Bev, Kenley is survived by his four sons Matt (Nicole) of Edmonton, Paul of Edmonton, Garnet of Taber and Mickey of Taber; his grandchildren Kaitlyn and Jordan Laine and Kyle Asplund; his two sisters Maureen (Lorne) Elgert of Rimbley, Alberta and Sara (Monte) Bachand of Kamloops, British Columbia; one sister-in-law Louann (Garnet) Asplund of Brooks as well as numerous neices and nephews. Kenley was predeceased by his daughter Rhonda, his parents Reed and Elva, his brother Garnet and by his sister Lois. Eleanor Allison, beloved wife of the late Laurie Allison, of Vauxhall, passed away at the Taber Hospital on Friday, January 28, 2005 at the age of 73 years. Eleanor will be fondly remembered by her brothers Harvey (Annie) Martin, John Martin all of Vauxhall, Charles (Dora) Martin; her sister Gerty (Mac) Cotton all of Medicine Hat; her adopted daughter Shawna Perras & grandchildren Kyle, Megan & Marina Tschritter and Layne Perras. She was predeceased by her parents Edward & Annie Martin, her brother Bob Martin, her sisters Betty Page and Joyce Martin and her nephew Barry Martin. Arleen Gertrude Ainsworth, beloved wife of the late Ronald Ainsworth, passed away in Bow Island on Sunday, October 17, 2004 at the age of 86 years. Arleen was born November 26, 1917 in Hartford, Connecticut where she raised her brother Wayne after their mother passed away and where she met and later married Henry Paulman. Henry passed away in the War and when Arleen and her son Hap were visiting friends in Calgary, they decided to stay and make their home there. She met Ronald Ainsworth and they were married in 1955. They resided in Calgary until Ron retired, at which time they moved to their summer home in Sylvan Lake. In 1993 they moved to Taber to be closer to their daughter Kathy and her family. Arleen is survived by her daughter Kathy Ainsworth (Steve Lemisko) and grandson Ronald Lemisko of Taber; her son Henry "Hap" Ainsworth of Red Deer and grandson Russell (Stacey) Ainsworth, great granddaughter Delaney and great grandson Dayne all of Cochrane and granddaughter Lee-Ann and her husband of Red Deer and also by two cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Leon and Evelina and husbands Henry and Ron. Mr. Arnold John Austin, beloved husband of Mrs. Jolainne Austin of Taber, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2004 at the age of 76 years. Arnold was born in Scotsguard, Saskatchewan on August 5, 1927 and attended school in Simmie, Saskatchewan. He moved to Alberta in 1947 where he pursued a career in law enforcement. His passion were his family, friends, fishing and painting. He will be sadly missed and forever loved by all who knew him. Arnold is survived by his wife Jolainne; his daughter Carol (Glen) Bell; sons Larry (Sharon) Austin and Allan (Jackie) Austin; granddaughters Jennifer Bell and Marion (Troy) Fisher; stepson Frank (Patty) Bowcott; his brothers Russell, Harry, Dervin, Gerald and their families and sisters Adeline, Loretta, Delores, Patricia and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Mabel Austin, his first wife Elsie, his son Kelvin and brothers Roy, Ronald and Herman. Esther Rae Allen, beloved wife of Ted Allen, passed away in Lethbridge on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at the age of 87 years. Esther was born at Bellevue, Alberta on January 5, 1917, the daughter of George and Maria Chiarovano. She attended Normal School in Calgary and moved to the Taber area where she taught at Cromwell School. She married Ted Allen on November 5, 1938 and they farmed in the Taber area for a number of years. Esther was instrumental in starting the Taber Museum and served on the Library Board. Besides her husband Ted, Esther is survived by a son Ted (Holly) Allen of Calgary and a daughter Linda (Art) Olivier of Taber; grandchildren Tania Lee (Arya) Farinpour of Los Angeles, Megan McKinley (Tony) Deegan of Calgary, Tedd Richard (Christy) Allen of Los Angeles, Katherine Rae Allen, Sean Wallace Allen, Michelle Rae (Jerry) Gill of Prince Albert and Andrea Louise (Dave) Olivier of Edmonton; three great grandchildren Kamran Arya Farinpour, Armand Joseph Olivier and Jordan Marie Olivier and also by one sister Inez Truba of Calgary. She was predeceased by a son Richard Russell "Dick" Allen in 1969 and three sisters Georgina Hallworth, Doris Vieweger and Mary Chiarovano. A Private Service for family and close friends was held at the Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber on Friday, January 9, 2004.
