Brett Eugene Forchuk of Taber, beloved son of Greg & Kim Forchuk and dear brother of little sister Taylor, passed away in Edmonton on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the age of 15 years. As a newborn, he began his journey on this earth in Stars Air Ambulance and on life support in the Edmonton hospital. That June, against all odds, Brett proved the medical prognosis wrong and he not only survived his lung and brain trauma, but thrived in spite of it. Although Brett was left with a high sensory hearing loss, he never let this slow him down. He was kind, gentle, and compassionate. He deeply cared for people and was especially sensitive to others who might also have struggles in their life. Brett’s family and friends always knew he had their backs and he inspired everyone through his acceptance of others and his kindness to everyone. He was always one you could count on. His incredible zest for life was both admired and appreciated by all who knew him. For fifteen years, he lived his life to the fullest and was always known for giving it his all. Two of Brett’s passions were hockey and riding/racing his quad and dirt bike. Brett was a champion. He received ‘Best Defenseman’ in hockey for his great attitude and work ethic. He was always improving his game and sparking the team with his big hits. He was a great asset to his team. Brett also received numerous championship awards over the years while racing motocross. Whether he was on the track or riding in the mountains, he always rode with heart and determination. He was blessed with a natural ability and truly shone brightly. On June 4, 2011, Brett once again boarded Stars Air Ambulance and was headed back to Edmonton on life support for lung and brain trauma. Within the loving arms of Taylor, Kim and Greg, Brett crossed through the beautiful veil between Heaven and earth. With the soft touch of an angel’s wing and the grace of God, he walked over Rainbow Bridge with his pets Freddy and Bruizer at his side. From there, he entered Heaven’s gate, welcomed into the warm and devoted embrace of his Grandma Frances, his Grandpa Peter, his Grandma Gladys, his Uncle Eugene, his Uncle Cliff and his Auntie Jenean. Brett will always be lovingly cherished by his little sister Taylor, his mother Kim and his father Greg. He will also be remembered by his Grandparents John & Betty Meier, his aunts and uncles, Pete Forchuk; Phil & Barb Forchuk and family; Cyril & Marilyn Forchuk and family; Bernadine & Ray Leech and family; Jim & Susan Meier and family; Cynthia & Clarence Holthe and family; Ed & Tammy Meier and family; Mary & Jerry Marose and family and his cousins Colter, Quintin and Keaton Meier; Dean & Devonee Sininger and family; Devin & Tara Sininger and family; Tracy & Ian Lardner and family. We know that his memory will also be cherished by many other special people, too numerous to mention here. He touched so many lives. We were praying to God for a miracle and we heard God’s answer. He said “don’t you see ..... you have been in the presence of a miracle for fifteen years”. If friends so desire, memorial tribute’s in Brett’s name may be made directly to STARS, 1441 Aviation Park NE, PO Box 570, Calgary, Alberta T2E 8M7 (www.stars.ca) or to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, 1502 College Plaza 8215 - 112 Street Edmonton, Alberta T6G 2C8 (www.stollerykids.com).

Margaret Franz, beloved wife of the late John Franz, passed away in Lethbridge on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the age of 89 years. A private family service will be held and Margaret will be buried with her late husband John at the Coaldale Mennonite Cemetery. She is survived by her son Walter (Ruth) Franz of Lethbridge; her grandchildren and great grandchildren Dawn (Doug) Willms and children Crystal & Cody, Lyle (Merry) Franz and children Thaniel & Edward, Gene Franz, Jennifer (Chris) Siddle and children Mattais & Keenan. She came to Canada with her parents and younger brother Henry at the age of seven, eventually settling in the Vauxhall area. She met and married John Franz. Together they farmed until 1958 when they moved into Vauxhall where she held a number of housekeeping jobs, providing child care for some. This she enjoyed very much. In 1966 they moved to Didsbury to become house parents at M.B.I. One of her responsibilities there was cooking for the students. 1967 saw them moving to Abbotsford, British Columbia where again they were house parents and Margaret took up cooking duties. Her sense of humour and her caring way led some of the students to keep in touch with her. In 1968 after the Bible school closure, Margaret & John moved to Coaldale to work in the Altenheim (old folks home). Here she cooked and looked after the needs of the residents. Again she developed long time friendships. She then worked for Eatons where she cooked in the cafeteria. Margaret stayed in this position until she felt it important to remain at home and look after her parents. Margaret’s faith was strong and so church activities were very important to her. One story told recently by a former student recounted that a car doubled for a Sunday school classroom. Besides teaching she could often be found cooking, sewing, crocheting, knitting or some form of hospitality role. Whether church related or just family and friends dropping by, the doors to her home were always open and something was always on the table. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Margaret’s name may be made directly to the MCC Alberta, 210, 2946 - 32 Street NE, Calgary, Alberta T1Y 6J7, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, Box 2211, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 4K7 or to the charity of one’s personal choosing. Also a special thanks is extended to the EMT’s, emergency doctors, nurses and the nursing staff on the fourth floor at the Chinook Regional Hospital for their care and compassion to Margaret and her family during her last hours.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dad Richard (Dick) Allen Fairbanks at the age of 71. He had great faith which brought him through many trials. At the age of eight Dick suffered from Rheumatic Fever which affected his health for the rest of his life. He had his first of many strokes at the age of 26. His life was a great example to his family and friends. His positive attitude, great sense of humour and dedication to his family and the gospel were an inspiration to us all. Family and friends are invited to meet with the family in the Relief Society room of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Barnwell from 11:30 A.M. to 12:40 P.M. on Monday, January 11, 2010. He was predeceased by his father Peter James Fisher; sister Marnie Noble; son-in-law David Quackenbush; brother-in-law Tom Miller and nephew Jim Sevalrud. He took his schooling in Taber and then attended the University of Alberta, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1962. That summer he married his high school sweetheart, Rose Platt, and they moved to Cardston where he began his career as a pharmacist. Don eventually purchased the drug store in Vauxhall and “Fisher’s Pharmacy” was established in 1974 with Don in residence as the “piller” of the community. Don was very dedicated to the town of Vauxhall and was always willing to give service to anyone or any project that required his assistance. He served two terms as mayor, started the Vauxhall Businessmen’s Association, and served on many committees such as golf club, food bank, tennis club etc. As an active member of the LDS church community, he served as Young Men’s President, Scout Master, Sunday School teacher, Bishop and financial clerk to name a few, but he wore many other church “hats” as well. In his final year Don enjoyed working with his wife Rose as they travelled every Friday to Cardston to give further church service in the temple there. Don was a true “people person” with many hobbies and talents, including photography, woodworking and gardening, but his favourite past time was singing with his dear wife as he played his ukulele. Of all his earthly duties and accomplishments, Don achieved his greatest success as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He always made special time for his children and grandchildren; little hikes, golf outings, jet ski trips and “you-choose-the-activity” projects were frequent, and part of the reason he was so special to his family, and why he will be so greatly missed.
