MYLINA

Mylina Feko (nee Wasut) “Momma Bear” passed away in
Taber on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the age of 77
years with her family at her bedside.
Left to celebrate her life are her children Debbie
Abell of Taber, her son Sheldon Abell and his father
Phil Abell; Jim Feko of Coaldale; Rod Feko of Brooks
and his daughter Jamee Collett; Brian Feko of Brooks
and his children Bobbi (Luke) Wagstaff and Justin (Ciarra)
Feko; Keith Feko of Taber and his daughter
Dominique; Nick Feko of Taber; Shelley (Tristano
Oliverio) Feko of Langdon. She is also survived by
her best buddy Grizz whom supplied her with lots and
lots of unconditional love in her last years; great
grandchildren Mackenzie, Wyatt, Shaye, Andee, Sarah,
Abigail, Zach and Allee as well as numerous nieces
and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Barbara and
Andrew Wasut; brothers Andy and Paul; sister Annie.
Mylina was born in Taber on March 12, 1932 to
Barbara and Andrew Wasut. She grew up on the family
farm south of Taber, the same farm she raised her
seven children on. Mylina worked on the farm doing
everything from hoeing beets in the morning, baking
cinnamon buns in the afternoon and then making
supper in the evening. Working from morning till
night was her expression of love to her children.
Mylina moved into town in 1975 and has resided there
until her passing. She loved working in her yard,
tending flowers, gardening and especially harvesting
red beets to make her famous borscht soup. Most of
all spending time with her family was what Mylina
lived for. Her home was open to all that came. She
had seven children of her own and many additions
along the way. Mylina worked as a janitor at the
medical clinic and then at the hospital as a cook.
She will be remembered as one of the best cooks
there for fifteen plus years. Just ask some of the
doctors about her cinnamon buns, she was famous for
them. Mylina somehow managed to find time for
herself to go to B-I-N-G-O! She also enjoyed playing
cards and visiting with her many good friends.
Mylina will be sadly missed by all who knew her,
especially her children who she was the rock and
foundation to.

name may be made directly to a charity of one’s
choice.

DON
FISHER
1941 - 2008

Donald Henry Fisher of Vauxhall, beloved husband of
Rose (nee Platt) Fisher, passed away unexpectedly on
Thursday, October 23, 2008 at the age of 67 years.
Besides his loving wife Rose, Don is survived by his
children Tamera Quackenbush of Vancouver, Washington
and her three children (Lorrina Jo, Lisa and
Chantelle); Tracy (Richard) Graham of Atlanta,
Georgia and their six children (Dallin, Kerilyn,
Tyler, Derrick, Whitney and Kevin); Scott (Janine)
Fisher of Sherwood Park and their three children
(Cohen, Brenna and Grace); Brian Fisher of Victoria,
British Columbia; Julie (Jay) O’Bray of Fort
McMurray and their three children (James, Jadie and
Jaryn). He is also survived by his mother Ruth
Fisher; siblings Cassie Sevalrud, Bruce (Bettejean)
Fisher, Sheila Miller and numerous nieces and
nephews. Other relatives include mother-in-law Iola
Platt; brother-in-law Don (Sharon) Platt and
sister-in-law Ila Rae (Jim) Watmough.
He was predeceased by his father Peter James Fisher;
sister Marnie Noble; son-in-law David Quackenbush;
brother-in-law Tom Miller and nephew Jim Sevalrud.
Donald Henry Fisher was born in Taber on February
27, 1941 to Peter and Ruth Fisher. He took his
schooling in Taber and then attended the University
of Alberta, where he graduated with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Pharmacy in 1962. That summer he
married his high school sweetheart, Rose Platt, and
they moved
to Cardston where he began his career as a
pharmacist. Don eventually purchased the drug store
in Vauxhall and “Fisher’s Pharmacy” was established
in 1974 with Don in residence as the “piller” of the
community. Don was very dedicated to the town of
Vauxhall and was always willing to give service to
anyone or any project that required his assistance.
He served two terms as mayor, started the Vauxhall
Businessmen’s Association, and served on many
committees such as golf club, food bank, tennis club
etc. As an active member of the LDS church
community, he served as Young Men’s President, Scout
Master, Sunday School teacher, Bishop and financial
clerk to name a few, but he wore many other church
“hats” as well. In his final year Don enjoyed
working with his wife Rose as they travelled every
Friday to Cardston to give further church service in
the temple there. Don was a true “people person”
with many hobbies and talents, including
photography, woodworking and gardening, but his
favourite past time was singing with his dear wife
as he played his ukulele. Of all his earthly duties
and accomplishments, Don achieved his greatest
success as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He always made special time for his children and
grandchildren; little hikes, golf outings, jet ski
trips and “you-choose-the-activity” projects were
frequent, and part of the reason he was so special
to his family, and why he will be so greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the
family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48
Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 between

Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday,
October 29, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. with Bishop Blaine
Burbank conducting. Burial to follow at the Taber
Memorial Garden.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Don’s
name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

together tomorrow again”.

FOOTE
1917 - 2008

Charles Edward Foote of Taber, beloved husband of
the late Jean Foote (nee Fletcher), passed away on
Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at the age of 91 years.
Charlie is survived by his daughter Evelyn (Willard)
Soltys of Lethbridge and daughter-in-law Linda Foote

Ferreira, Monica (Doug) Starrett, Rob (Lisa) Foote

31, 1917 at the family farm located south east of

the age of 14, Charlie worked for neighbours to
supplement the farm’s income. Fascinated by
developing technology, he began inventing machinery
to make farming easier. Among his inventions were a
portable welder, a manure spreader, a side pick up
for bales and a scoop for the tractor. Charlie
always wanted to know how things worked and looked
for ways to improve them. When Calgary Power, the
telephone and natural gas were being introduced to
rural areas, Charlie was eager for them to be
accepted by the farmers in the Hudson area and
worked hard to bring these services to all the
farms. He was also a very active member of the
Fraternal Order of Moose and the Knox United Church
in Taber.
In 1941, Charlie married his childhood sweetheart
and neighbour, Jean Fletcher. They were just three
months away from celebrating their fiftieth wedding
anniversary when Jean passed away. The majority of
their married life was spent farming. In 1984 they
retired to Taber and enjoyed traveling to Europe,
the Philippines and many US states. After Jean’s
passing, Charlie moved first to Harmony Home, later
the Clearview Lodge and finally Continuing Care
where he made many new and wonderful friends. Poetry
became a new found talent and it was his way of
expressing his thoughts on the environment and life
in general. He will be fondly missed by his family
and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the
family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48
Avenue, Taber on Monday, October 6, 2008 between
