Edna May Ronspies, beloved wife of Melvin Ronspies of Taber, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the age of 93 years.
Besides her loving husband Mel, Edna is survived by her children Norma (Don) Wier of Stavely, Betty Haynes of Kamloops Connie (Keith) Gross of Vauxhall, Fred (Bernadette) Haynes of Stavely, Ruth (Guy) Yuzicapi of Calgary, Donna (Wayne) Soderlund of Chestermere; daughter-in-law Linda Haynes of Taber and son-in-law Daryl Wentz of Wrentham and by numerous granchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Mary Malinsky, Ruth Nawolski and Ellen Jensen all of Taber; two sisters-in-law, Vivian Rombough and Agnes Rombough both of Taber as well as by Mels brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughters Joan Thacker and Louanne Wentz; son Ronald Haynes; sister Bertie Edwards; six brothers Walter (Linda), Archie, Lacey, Clifford, Milon and Clarence (Edith) Rombough; brothers-in-law Nick Malinsky, Taras Nawolski, Roy Jensen, Lawrence Edwards and son-in-law Deane Thacker.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, September 24, 2009 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.

1942 - 2009

Judy Real beloved wife of Steve Real, passed away in
Taber on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the age of 66 years.
Besides her loving husband Steve, she is survived by her
sister Betty (Arnie) Rushfeldt of Bonnyville and their
daughter Luanna; brother George Bohus of Lethbridge;
uncles Paul (Gloria) Szoke of Kipp and George Bohus of
Coaldale.
She was predeceased by her parents John and Maria Bohus;
uncles Paul and Andrew Bohus.
Judy was born and raised in Raymond. After obtaining her
beautician’s license she moved to Taber to pursue her
career. She worked for other shop owners before opening
her own shop, Judy’s Cuti Curl. In Taber she met Steve
Real and they were married on July 1, 1968. Judy enjoyed
travelling, especially to Arizona. She also enjoyed
photography and attending airshows. Although Judy met
and touched many people in the community, she was most
comfortable in the privacy of her own home. There she
went about making a house a home. There too she was able
to enjoy and look after her pets. Judy will always be
remembered for the special cards she wrote and sent to
family and friends in times of sorrow and in times of
joy. Each card was specially worded and written in
Judy’s distinctive handwriting.
A private family service will be held with burial to
follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.

Thursday, November 6, 2008 at the age of 84 years.
Kate is survived by her husband Marcel Roy; children

Craig; Shirley (Fred) Danforth and their children
Colleen, Wanda, TerryAnn, Audrey, Dwayne and Patti;
Edward (Shirley) Yakubowski; Jennie (James) Tomlinson

grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, six
brothers and six sisters.
She was predeceased by her first husband Samuel
Yakubowski in 1974, her parents, brother Steve and a
brother-in-law.

Anthony Rarick, beloved husband of Katherine (Kay)
Rarick of Foremost, passed away in Bow Island on Sunday,
June 8, 2008 at the age of 91 years.
Besides Kay, his loving wife of sixty five years, he is
survived by his daughters Isabel (Alvin) Bechthold of
Lacombe and Charlotte (Robert) Herbst of Foremost; sons
Ed (Edna) Rarick of Foremost, George (Donna) Rarick of
Foremost, Rod (MaryAnne) Rarick of Leduc, Barry
(Marilyn) Rarick of Foremost and Roger (Lori) Rarick of
Foremost; fifteen grandchildren and twenty six great
grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters
Elizabeth Marthaller of Calgary, Helen (John) Schatz of
Foremost and Delores (Joe) Harty of Etzikom; brother
Lawrence of Quesnel, British Columbia; sisters-in-law
Alice Rarick of New Dayton, Evelyn Rarick of Lethbridge,
Clara Rarick of Fairview, Sylvia Robinson of Medicine
Hat and Elaine Hauff of Medicine Hat.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Helen Rarick;
sisters Katie and Magdelina; brothers Joe, Fred, John,
Sylvester, Leo and Clarence as well as by numerous in
laws.
Tony was born March 2, 1917 in Selz, North Dakota to
John and Helen Rarick. At a young age Tony moved with
his family to Nemiskam where he was raised and educated.
He married Katherine Marthaller in Foremost on September
21, 1942. They resided in Nemiskam until 1962 when they
moved to Foremost. Tony was employed by the Village of
Foremost for twenty six years and retired in 1990. He
will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

Elizabeth Rempel, beloved wife of Steely Rempel of
Vauxhall, passed away in Taber on Thursday, April 24,
2008 at the age of 72 years.
Besides her loving husband Steely, Liz is survived by
her children, Patty (Myles) Toews of Florence, South
Carolina and their children Deanne, Justin, Rachael &
Lyndsay; Betty (George) Hiebert of Worsley and their
children Nicole, Michelle, Brianne, Kaitlyn, Matthew,
Melissa & Emily; Karen (Vic) Pankratz of Surrey, British
Columbia and their children Jaline & Kyle; Tim
(Jennifer) Rempel of Lethbridge. She is also survived by
her siblings, Abe (Helen) Unruh of Taber; Johanna
(Henry) Herfort of Calgary; Henry (Sue) Unruh of
Enchant; Jake (Mary) Unruh of Vauxhall; Aunt Margaret
Riediger of Coaldale as well as numerous nieces and
nephews. The family would like to give special
recognition to Kari Campbell, Liz’s long time caregiver
and very dear friend.
She was predeceased by her parents David & Elizabeth
Unruh; brother Dave & sister-in-law Esther Unruh and
brother Pete & sister-in-law Anne Unruh.
Liz touched everyone who came into her life.
Born in Vauxhall on September 6, 1935, she attended
North Slope Elementary and Vauxhall schools. After
graduation she attended Henderson Business College and
worked full time at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Vauxhall
and Calgary.
In 1957 she married Henry “Steely” Rempel and in 1958
they settled in Vauxhall where they raised their family.
She worked hard and enjoyed canning, baking, gardening,
and for much of her life her family had a hard time
keeping up with her. Liz’s family was her joy and there
was nothing she loved more then having them home where
she could feed, love and care for them.
Liz was a shining example of Christian faith throughout
her life. She was always positive and her love for the
Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour shone through
everything she did. She was a woman of prayer, taking a
personal interest and offering prayer for everyone who
needed it.
She will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she
touched.

2008 at the age of 92 years.

five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband William, infant son

Helen Rempel, beloved wife of the late Jake Rempel,
passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on
Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the age of 89 years.
Helen is survived by her children Ruth (Alvin) Pedersen
of Lethbridge, Mary Rempel of Lethbridge, Peter (Donna)
Rempel of Crossfield, Paul (Yvonne) Rempel of
Lethbridge, Jake (Maryanne) Rempel of Valleyview, Bob (Bev
Evans) Rempel of Lethbridge and Ester (Werner) Wiens of
Fort St. John, British Columbia; twelve grandchildren
and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by
her siblings Marion (Dick) Thiessen of Abbotsford,
British Columbia, John (Elsie) Riesen of Surrey, British
Columbia and Betty (Jake) Janzen of Abbotsford, British
Columbia as well as numerous other relatives.
She was predeceased by her husband Jake; parents Peter
and Helena Riesen; brother Peter Riesen; sister Agatha
Derksen; two infant sisters and by her daughter-in-law
Joanna Rempel.
Helen Rempel was born Stepanovka, Russia in 1918. At the
age of seven she immigrated to Canada with her family.
They settled on a farm in Steinbach, Manitoba in 1926.
When Helen was old enough, she worked as domestic help
in Winnipeg. In 1942 they moved to Yarrow, British
Columbia. She married Jake Rempel in 1943 and moved to
Vauxhall. They raised their seven children and farmed
until their retirement. After Jake passed away, she
moved to town and in 2000 moved to Coaldale where she
resided until her passing.
Family was important to her. She was never happier than
when all her children and grandchildren were sitting
around her table. Helen was well known for her
hospitality to friends and strangers alike. She always
had the coffee ready when any of her numerous friends or
relatives would stop for a visit. Children, as well
adults, loved her baking and her kind, sweet spirit. She
was famous for her home made buns.
Helen loved to go on any road trips and travel the
world. Her curiosity and willingness to explore led her
to visit South America, Alaska, Europe, Israel and
China. She walked the Jerusalem wall and at age 87, she
climbed the Great Wall of China.
She loved attending church and meeting with her weekly
Bible study group. Crocheting and embroidery were
hobbies she loved. Helen was a gifted seamstress. Using
her love for sewing to show compassion for the needy,
she made hundreds of patchwork blankets. These were sent
all over the world by the humanitarian organization MCC.
Helen left a legacy of Christian love, not only for her
family, but for her fellow man. She will be remembered
and missed by all who knew her.

1921 - 2008

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our
dear mother Kathleen (Kay) Real on Tuesday, February 26,
2008 at the age of 86 years.
She was born in Bodajk, Hungary on October 25, 1921 and
immigrated to Canada with her parents in 1926.
Kay is the beloved wife of the late Steve Real Sr. and
is survived by her loving son Steve (Judy) Real Jr. of
Taber; a sister Helen Holics of Claresholm; two brothers
John (Zellah) Toth of Cardston and Joe (Verna) Toth of
Lethbridge and many dear nieces and nephews. She will
also be missed by special friend Ethel Wong who was like
another sister and also by her Goddaughter Pat (Henry)
Baumstark.
She was predeceased by her husband Steve on April 12,
1985, her mother Mary Toth in 1953, father Mike Toth in
1985, sister Mary Hogyi in 1988, brothers Steve in 1993
and Mike in 2000.
Kay was happiest when family and friends came to visit
and will be forever remembered for her wonderful
hospitality and amazing meals.

1919 - 2008

Hugh Wright Robertson passed away peacefully February 4,
2008 at Long Term Care in Milk River, Alberta.
He was born in Griffin, Saskatchewan on September 8,
1919 and grew up on the family farm in Grassy Lake,
Alberta.
Hugh was predeceased by his adoptive parents Parker and
Ethel Carruthers, sister Margaret Ivins, step sister
Clara, half sister Phyllis and birth brother Adam.
He is survived by his special friend Connie Monroe of
Edmonton, half sisters Peg and Rita also of Edmonton and
numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by
his nephew Tom Ivins of Lethbridge and niece Patty Lund
of Taber and their families.
Hugh served in the Canadian Army in Canada in 1941 and
was honorably discharged in 1943 due to health problems.
He loved the independence and freedom of ranch life,
especially his beloved Galloway and Highland cattle,
which could be seen in the foreground of the Sweet Grass
Hills, another favorite thing of Hughs. Hugh was an
unique individual and a good friend to many. His last
years were spent in Long Term Care in Milk River where
he received excellent and special care. The family
wishes to thank the staff for their concern and
compassion for Hugh.
As requested by Hugh there will be no funeral service
and cremation will take place.

William Rachue, beloved husband of Joyce Rachue of
Taber, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the
age of 90 years.
Besides Joyce, his loving wife of 60 years, Bill leaves
to mourn his passing: his daughter Rose Marie (Charles)
Krysa of Lethbridge and their daughters Laura (Junior)
Olivier and Cheryl; son David of Calgary and his
children Kathy, Jarrod and Marina; daughter Betty (Ray)
Hurt of Calgary and their sons Dennis and Brad; daughter
Roberta (Ken) Zuidhof of Taber and their sons David
(Sheri) and Chris (Natalie); daughter Sherry (Dan)
Robinson of Calgary and their children Amy and Ben. He
is also survived by his three great grandchildren Lacey,
Tyler and Ryker as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by an infant son Robert; parents
Adolf and Justine Rachue; three sisters Julia, Helen and
Martha; six brothers Rudolf, Harry, Bert, Art, Hank and
Joe.
Bill was born in Millet, Alberta on August 6, 1917 the
youngest son of Adolf and Justine Rachue. When he was
still quite young the family moved to Pendryl, Alberta
close to Buck Lake. In the early forties Bill went
trucking hauling freight with his brothers along the
Alaska Highway and from there he continued on with
trucking. In 1946 he met Joyce while driving truck at
the coal mine at Grassy Lake. For the next number of
years he continued trucking, hauling gravel. Trucking
was a job which took him and his family all over Alberta
as well as into Saskatchewan. In 1955 Bill and Joyce
bought their farm northwest of Grassy Lake where they
continued to farm until retiring in 1977 to the Town of
Grassy Lake. Bill then took on the job of taking care
of the water, sewer and cutting grass in Grassy Lake for
five years until he turned sixty-five. For a number of
years Bill raised pheasants, quail and peacocks. He
always enjoyed fishing, hunting, his birds and took
great pride in his garden and flowers in Grassy Lake. In
2002 he recognized that the time had come for another
move and Bill and Joyce moved into Pioneer Place in
Taber. Bill loved all of his family dearly and will be
especially remembered for his great gift of telling
stories. He suffered from Alzheimer's and in 2005 he
became a resident of Taber Extended Care.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Southland
Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday,
January 24, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Carl Bogda of
the Peace Lutheran Church in Taber, officiating. Burial
to follow at the Prairieview Cemetery, Grassy Lake.

one’s personal choosing.

Ellen Renner, beloved wife of the late C. Henry Renner,

Ellen was predeceased by her husband Henry of fifty
years; parents Patrick & Nora Boyd; brother James
(Betty) Boyd; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary
(Owen) Neilson, Roy (Ruth) Renner, Hazel (James)
Sinclair, Emma Renner, Mae (Eugene) Jaque, Myrle Renner
and Ivan (Dolly) Renner.
Ellen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints and served at various capacities
through the years. Mom was an avid garage saler with a
keen eye for antiques. Her generous spirit was felt by
many in the community. She was always quick to lend a
hand or just a smile when it was needed.
Ellen was born August 7, 1922 in Greenock, Scotland, the
daughter of Patrick and Nora Boyd. Ellen immigrated to
Canada with her parents in 1930. She met and later
married Henry in Calgary after the war. Together they
settled in Taber.

Edith Mae Rombough, beloved wife of the late Clarence
Rombough of Vauxhall, passed away in Taber on Tuesday,
October 23, 2007 at the age of 94 years.
Edith was born in Edmonton on January 30, 1913 to Ernest
and Almeda Boyd. In 1950, Edith and Clarence bought a
farm in the Enchant area and farmed the land for 30
years where they raised their nine children.
She is survived by her children Jean (Howard) Olson,
Lillian Olson, Dale (Dorothy) Rombough, Marion (Ross)
Nelson, Wallace (Sylvia) Rombough, Gordon (Cindy)
Rombough, Thelma (Barry) Brown, Jobie (Arnold) Carswell;
son-in-law Milton Howg, thirty-two grandchilden, sixty
great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
Edith was predeceased by her husband Clarence; daughter
Marlene Howg; son-in-law Herman Olson, four
grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Ruth Rachwalski of Taber, beloved wife of the late Mike
Rachwalski, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at
the age of 90 years.
Ruth was born on May 11, 1917 in Taber, Alberta, a
daughter of Tom and Lizzie Carr. She received her
schooling in Taber and married Mike Rachwalski on
November 14, 1942. Ruth was a long time employee of
Empress Foods. She was an active member of St.
Theodore’s Anglican Church and Altar Guild, the Moose,
Royal Purple and Taber Hospital Women’s Auxiliary.
Ruth is survived by her son Tom (Marie) Rachwalski of
Coldstream, B.C. and their two children Sheila (John)
Sinkie (their children Jordyn and Ryan) of Coquitlam,
B.C. and Craig (Wendy) Rachwalski (their children Cole
and Jake) of Cloverdale, B.C.; a daughter Bev Rachwalski
of Edmonton; brother Roger Carr of Calgary; sister
Florence Frasch of Strathmore and also by numerous
nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother
in 1928 and her father in 1948.

Mary Bernadette Revak (nee Magyar) of Taber, beloved
wife of the late Louis Revak, passed away on Thursday,
June 28, 2007 at the age of 86 years.
Mary is survived by her son Ron Revak of Magrath and
good friend, Karen Taillefer; daughter Jeannette
(Gordon) Quast of Taber; three grandchildren Colleena
Fast of Grande Prairie, Corey (Nicole) Quast of Red Deer
and Keith (Mel) Quast of Red Deer; nine
great-grandchildren Seth, Katarina, Shayodi, Jade,
Sierra, Faith, Hans, Bailey and Jessica. She is also
survived by her brothers Louis (Beth) Magyar of Enchant,
Frank Magyar of Edmonton; sisters Margaret Lang of
Edmonton, Isabelle Magyar of Edmonton and sisters-in-law
Helen Stanko of Calgary and Beatrice Magyar of
Lethbridge as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Louis in 1998;
grandson Mark Quast in 1975; parents Anna and Gabor
Magyar in 1969 and 1972, respectively; an infant brother
Andrew and infant sister Margaret in Hungary; sister
Jolane Tokariuk in 2002 and brother Bert in 2007.
Mary was born December 20, 1920 in Ramoschahaza,
Szabolcs Megye, Hungary. She immigrated with her mother
and brother Bert, on the Empress of Scotland landing in
Canada on June 26, 1928. Upon arrival they traveled by
train to Alberta to meet her Father in Taber. Being the
oldest, she was responsible for
helping to raise her three sisters and three brothers.
She
worked at the Cannery in Taber before her marriage. She
married Louis Revak on December 30, 1942. Together they
farmed south of Taber for thirty-one years until they
sold the farm and retired into the town of Taber in
1973. Mary enjoyed gardening, plants, flowers,
children, music, knitting and movies. She took great
joy in her family and her nieces and nephews. Her
greatest achievement and thrill was a six week trip
taken to Hungary in 1970 where she renewed acquaintances
with relatives.

1922 - 2007
Frank Rabusic, beloved husband of Norma, passed away in
Taber on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the age of 84 years.
Besides his loving wife Norma, he is survived by his
sons Jim (Brenda) and their children Chris (Jamie), Ken,
Brad (Ren) and Lindsay (Rob) all of Taber; Rod (Debbie)
of Taber; Frank Jr. (Belinda) of Racine, Wisconsin,
Richard (Traci) of Topeka, Kansas and by his daughter
Maryann (Ted) Wiedener of Calgary and their children Kim
& Miranda. He is the proud great grandpa to two boys,
Evan & Parker and is also survived by his sister Marie
Rabusic of Lethbridge.
He was predeceased by his parents Frank & Helen Rabusic.
Frank was born in Kostice, Czechoslovakia on September
14, 1922. The Rabusic family immigrated to Canada in
1929 settling in the Raymond area. He received his
schooling in Raymond and Welling. When war began, Frank
took a job with Boeing Aircraft in Vancouver. He joined
the Airforce in 1943 and was stationed in various parts
of Canada. He received an honorable discharge in 1945
with a rank of pilot officer. He enrolled at the
University of Alberta and graduated with a degree in
Chemical Engineering. For a time he worked as a chemist
for the Canadian Sugar Factory, but left that position
to pursue his love of farming, ranching and cattle
feeding. On November 12, 1952 he married Norma Jennings.
They resided in Welling until 1957 when they purchased
their Taber farm. For ten years Frank operated a farm
machinery and fuel business in Taber, the first business
located on Highway 36. He was a community minded person.
He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, served as
director on the Sugar Beet Central Board, director of
Southern Alberta Co-op, chairman of the Taber Police
Commission and as a councilor for the Town of Taber.
Frank was well respected for his public speaking
ability. He enjoyed traveling, one of his memorable
trips was to his homeland in 1974. He enjoyed reading,
music, dancing and cattle auction sales and the
socializing that went along with it. Frank was an
ambitious man and leaves a legacy of hard work, love and
dedication to his wife and family.

James Clealand Reid of Taber, beloved husband of the
late Shirley Reid, went to be with our Lord and Saviour
on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the age of 90 years.
Jim is survived by three children Bob (Elvina) Parker of
Coaldale, Laurie (Blair) Lowry of Taber and Jim (Susan)
Reid of Vauxhall; grandchildren Kendra (Ryan) Shannon,
Dean and Daryl Parker, Blaine and Blake Lowry and Carly
Reid. He is also survived by his sister Mary (Doug)
Stevenson of Vauxhall, sister-in-law Joyce (Harry)
Wolosuk of Lethbridge and brother-in-law Jack (Donna)
Dayton of Victoria.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Shirley in 2002.
Jim was born in Lethbridge on September 17, 1916 the son
of Jack & Mary Reid. In 1927 he moved to Vauxhall from
Grassy Lake with his family. He attended the Kinlock
School and later the Vauxhall School. Jim attended the
Olds School of Agriculture, graduating in 1936. He
married Shirley Parker (nee Dayton) in 1966 and lived on
the farm near Vauxhall where he farmed until 1998 when
they moved to Taber.
His community of Vauxhall was very important to him and
he gave back to it by being a very active member of the
Lions Club, curling club and golf club. He was
president of the Ag Society for fifteen years and
organized numerous Agricultural Fairs. He also served
in many capacities with Parkview United Church. After
moving to Taber he became a very avid bowler and loved
the social aspect of the seniors league. He also
continued his lifelong love of reading. Family and
friends were dear to him and he took special pride in
his children and grandchildren.

Mennonite Brethren Church 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall
on Monday, April 23, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend
Aldeen McKay officiating. Interment to follow at the

Marion Evelyn Ruggles, beloved wife of Reverend Harry
Ruggles of Bow Island, passed away on Thursday, February
22, 2007 at the age of 80 years.
Besides her loving husband Harry, she is survived by two
sons Les Ruggles of Medicine Hat and his children
Rachelle (Richard) Wiebe, Dale (Krista) Ruggles, Lyle (Elly)
Ruggles and their mother Dianna; Marvin (Terry) Ruggles
of Calgary and their children Lindsay (Dennis) Kennedy
and Barrett Ruggles; three great grandchildren. She is
also survived by her sister Mildred (Vern) Beck of Bow
Island, sisters-in-law Elaine Johnson of Black Falds,
Laureen Steeves of Camrose and Jean (Jim) Reath of
Vulcan; brothers-in-law Clem Bexte of Vauxhall and Tony
Hanson of Three Hills as well as numerous nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter Janice, son Edward,
grandson Shawn Ruggles; sister Esther Hanson, brothers
Elmer and Carl Johnson and sister-in-law Tina Johnson
Bexte.
Marion was born February 25, 1926 at the family
homestead. She received her education in Vauxhall and
later attend Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills and
Trinity College in Chicago. She married Harry Ruggles
on July 2, 1949. Together they served in churches in
Venezuela and Peru. She and Harry then ministered with
the Evangelical Free Church in Taber and Bow Island.
Marion had a special interest in people and enjoyed
getting to know them. She had a deep love for the Lord
and enjoyed singing.

1914 - 2007

Lester Bruce Robinson of Lethbridge, passed away at the
Raymond Hospital on Monday, January 8, 2007 at the age
of 92 years. He was predeceased by his first wife Marion
and his second wife Bernadette.
Bruce was born in Burdett, Alberta on May 26, 1914, the
son of Gilbert and Katherine Robinson. He received his
schooling in Burdett. His mother passed away when he
was two and his father fifteen years later. Following
his father’s death he assumed the handyman role of his
father. Not only did he assume some of his father’s
positions in the community but he also took over his
father’s job of shoe repair man and of town barber.
Bruce barbered in the village of Burdett for many years.
He began farming in 1935 and that same year married
Marion Evelyn Lyons. Bruce was active in the numerous
accomplishments of the Community of Burdett. He was
instrumental in the formation and building of the
Burdett Curling Club, was foreman of the Burdett
Centennial Hall and Chairman of the Boy Scout
Association. He also held numerous positions in the
Burdett United Church and was a member of the Masons.
Marion predeceased him in 1975 and on May 28, 1977 he
married Bernadette Hudson Calder. Following his marriage
to Bernadette, they retired from farming and later moved
to Lethbridge. Bernadette predeceased him in 1996.
Bruce is survived by his children; Richard (Caroline) of
Raymond and their children Heather, Holly, Myrna,
Richard, Douglas, Allan and Nicholas; Barbara (Jim)
Appleton of Edmonton and children Cheryl, Suzanne and
Janet and their father Milton McCrea; Lyle (Elaine) of
Raymond and their children Kevin, Laurie, Leanne,
Gregory and Cynthia; Lloyd (Val) of Medicine Hat and
their children Linda and Michael and Jody (Sandra) and
children Joel and Wendy and their mother Dale Robinson;
stepson Doug (Bernice) Calder of Castlegar and their
children Kimberlee, Ryan, Stacie and Kristi;
stepdaughter Bette (Brian) Welke of Kelowna and their
children Leigh Anne (Tom) and Dean (Annette); forty four
great grandchildren and also by a dear friend Ella
Stabner. He was predeceased by his parents Gilbert and

Mrs. Lafern Cook Haynes Radway, beloved wife of the late
Mr. Jean Fay Radway, passed away on Saturday, April 22,
2006 at the age of 97 years.
Lafern was born in Taber on April 27, 1908, the youngest
of four children born to Peter and Margaret Cook. In
1910 they moved to Purple Springs, then back to the
Taber area in 1925. She married Percy Haynes on
October 15, 1927. From this union came four children
Julian, Roy, Margaret and Tim. In June 1959 she married
Jean Radway. Lafern and Jean moved around often,
living in Creston, B.C. and various other places in
Southern Alberta, making Taber their last place of
residence. She was an active member of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed country
dances, reading, writing poetry and old time country
music.
She is survived by her son Roy (Carolee) Haynes and
their children Brenda (Bud) Mickelberry, Sheldon
(Tracie) Haynes, Denise (Rod) Yokoyama, Arlene (John)
Geeraert, Leonard (Kelly) Haynes and Monica Skretting;
a daughter Margaret (Walter) Langmuir and her children
Roger Engleson and Sheila (Byron) Gustola; a son Tim
(Deanne) Haynes and their children Shane, Karen,
Richard, Robert and James Haynes; a granddaughter Linda
(Gary) Holdaway; a sister Mary Makinson as well as 23
great grandchildren.

second husband Jean Radway, son Julian, sister Hazel
and brother Willard.

1931 - 2006

Mrs. Rose Agnus Robinson, beloved wife of the late Mr.
Donald Robinson, passed away in Taber on Thursday,
April 13, 2006 at the age of 74 years.
Rose was born in Kingston, Ontario on April 23, 1931
to parents Arthur and Helen Lamour. She attended
school and remained in Ontario until 1981 when she
moved to Canmore, Alberta where she worked at the
Bow River Lodge, retiring in 1995. In 1999 she moved
to Taber where she lived with her son Hank until the
time of her passing.
She loved fishing, watching wildlife, painting, bingo
and the casino. One of her greatest pleasures was
playing yahtzee with her grandchildren and the love
of her cats Chips and Tiki.
Rose is survived by her five loving children; a son
Donald (Joan) Robinson and their son Scott; daughter
Carol Vivian (Gerald “Butch”) Lapoint and their
children Gerald Robinson and Jackie Freeman; a son
Micheal (Roxanne) Cote and their two children; a
daughter Donna (John) Wood and their son Shawn Wood;
a son Henry “Hank” (Rosemary) Robinson and their
children Amber Robinson, Tim Robinson, Amanda
Robinson, Tracy Green, Mandy Green and Jayme Green;
sisters Dorothy White, Rita Burnes and Joanne
(Richard) Von; brothers Bill (Phyllis) Lamour, Harry
(Beatrice) Lamour and Bob Lamour; brothers-in- law Don

their families. She was predeceased by her husband

JOE RACA
1939 - 2005

Mr. Joseph "Joe" Paulo Raca, beloved husband of Mrs.
Erica Raca of Taber, passed away on Monday, October 3,
2005 at the age of 66 years.
Joe was born to Paolo & Teresa Raca in Castelvenere,
Trieste, Italy on June 8, 1939 where he also received
his schooling. He came to Canada in 1957 along with
his sister Olivia. In 1959, he moved to Dawson City,
Yukon. He married Erica Vanneste December 30, 1961 and
together they made their home in Dawson City, Yukon
where he worked with YCGC Gold Dredging. In 1966 they
returned to Taber where he was employed by the Taber
Irrigation District until his retirement in 1988.
After this time, he continued working with his Grader
and Gradall Service. Joe had an overwhelming love and
compassion for all animals. Always close by his side
was his faithful companion, his dog Buddy.
Besides his loving wife Erica, Joe is survived by his
son John (Rhonda Wall) Raca and Rhondašs children
Naomi and Joel; his daughter Rita (Wayne) Goodrich and
their children Derrick and Nicholas; his sisters Maria
(Nel) Landry of Maine, United States, Olivia (Emilio)
Vardabasso of Vernon, B.C., Graziella (Victorio)
Donofrio of Italy; his father-in-law Albert Vanneste
of Taber and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Paolo & Teresa Raca
and by his mother-in-law Paula Vanneste.

JOANNE REGIER
1965 - 2005

Joanne Catherine Regier (nee Goerzen), passed away at
the Taber Hospital on Sunday, September 11, 2005 after
a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Joanne was born in Taber and lived and went to school
in Vauxhall until she was 18 years of age. She then
attended SCBI (Swift Current Bible Institute) for two
years, where she met her future husband Kent Regier.
Joanne graduated in 1986 from Kelsey Institute (SIAST)
in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with a Certificate in
Dental Assisting. She and Kent married in 1987 and
have lived in the Saskatoon area since then. Joannešs
special gifts of music, poetry and laughter are a
treasured legacy for the many loved ones she leaves
behind. Her beauty of spirit, courage and faith in
Yeshua gave her, and her loved ones, strength until
her passing. She is now "Safe in the Arms of Jesus".
Besides her beloved husband Kent, Joanne will be very
dearly missed by their three children, Daniel, Dante,
and Jordan. She will be loved and remembered always by
her parents, Henry and Katie Goerzen of Coaldale; four
sisters, Connie (Richard) Palmer and Dawn (Robin)
Martin of Taber, Debbie (Jerry) Reti of Two Hills, and
Julie (Roger) Wilk of Calgary; one brother Brian
(Elaine) Goerzen of Tofield; her father-in-law Harold
(Edith Franzen) Regier of Watrous, SK; and
mother-in-law Neila (Dale) Ebert of Prince Albert, SK.
Her many nieces and nephews will sadly miss their dear
Auntie Joanne, and she will also be remembered by
numerous other relatives and friends.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Hillcrest
Funeral Home, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Friday,
September 16, 2005 at 10:30 A.M. Interment to follow
at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

LILIE RASH
1917 - 2005

Mrs. Eliza "Lilie" Emily Rash, beloved wife of Mr.
Howard Rash of Taber, passed away at the Lethbridge
Regional Hospital on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at the age
of 88 years.
Lilie was born in Surbiton Surrey, England on March
23, 1917. She received her schooling in England and
served with the British Navy (Her Majesty Royal Navy).
She married Howard Rash in England on January 19,
1945 and came to Canada in 1946. Lilie and Howard were
involved in mission work with the Church of Christ for
many years. She experienced a varied and interesting
life which took her from native England to Calgary,
Grande Prairie and Weyburn, Saskatchewan as a
minister's wife. In 1965 they moved south of Purple
Springs where she spent 27 years as a farmers
helpmate. She delighted in the visits of her
grandchildren and later of the great grandchildren.
In 1993 Howard and Lilie moved to Taber. Her outgoing
personality endeared her to many.
Besides her loving husband Howard, she is survived by
her two children Jennifer (Len) Fletcher of Calgary
and Douglas (Joyce) Rash of Calgary; five
grandchildren Heather (Andrew), Kathy, Paula (Jason),
Traci, Chauncey (Heidi); eight great grandchildren
Erika, Heidi, Jesse, Stephan, Amanda, Jesse, Brandon
and Liam; a sister Winnifred of England; sister-in-law
Ruth Campbell and a brother-in-law Tom (Leota) Rash.
She was predeceased by four brothers.

MARY RESSLER
1918 - 2005

Mrs. Maria "Mary" Eva Ressler, beloved wife of the
late Mr. John Ressler, of Taber, passed away at the
Taber Hospital on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at the age
of 87 years.
Mary was born on January 17, 1918 in Fox Valley,
Saskatchewan where she received her schooling. She
married John Ressler January 28, 1935 and in 1942 they
left Fox Valley, settling in Taber. Mary was actively
involved organizing and coaching junior and senior
ladies fastball, was a 50 year member of both the
C.W.L. and the Royal Canadian Legion, Life Member of
the Order of the Royal Purple as well as a member of
the Handibus Committee and the 60+ club. Over the
years Mary was interested in politics, volunteering
and participating with the Social Credit Party. Mary
also enjoyed playing bingo with her companion John.
Mary will be missed by her six children Bertha (Fred
Sikkens) Moore of Lethbridge, Phil (Abe) Andres of
Taber, Leo (Joan) Ressler of Cranbrook, Bill (Kathy)
Ressler of Bow Island, Terry (Barb Jensen) Ressler of
Beaverlodge and Sherry Ressler of Whitby, Ontario;
twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-four great
grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; her
special friend and companion John Reti; brothers
Vincent Frey of Medicine Hat, Mike (Julie) Frey of
Kelowna, B.C., Hank Frey of Medicine Hat, Peter (Tina)
Frey of Medicine Hat and a sisters-in-law Evelyn Frey
of Barnwell, Helen Frey of Medicine Hat and also by
her step brothers and sisters.
Mary was predeceased by her husband John, daughter
Violet, son Wilfred, twins Rose and Jackie, grandson
Ragen Andres, granddaughter Brenda Lee House as well
as her parents, two sisters and three brothers.

JOHN REIMER
1906 - 2004

Mr. John B. Reimer went home to be with his Lord after
living nearly 98 fruitful years here on earth.
Dad was born in Russia and lived there until 1925 at
which time he came to Canada with three siblings. He
lived in several Alberta communities, but eventually
settled in Vauxhall. In 1929, Dad married Anna Riediger and together they raised their nine children.
Trying to make ends meet on the farm was a full time
job, but Dad always made time for church involvement.
He was a founding member of the Vauxhall Mennonite
Brethren Church. His faith and trust in God was
evident in every aspect of his life. In 1978, Mom
passed away. After several lonely years, Dad met and
married Helen Eitzen. They lived together in Linden
for seventeen years during which time he became
totally involved in the lives of his newly acquired
family, as well as the local Mennonite Brethren church
body. In 1998, a year after "Mom Eitzen" died, Dad
moved into the Sunny South Lodge in Coaldale where he
resided until his death. He died peacefully at the
Coaldale Health Care Centre on July 8th.
Dad is survived by his children: Bernhard (Margaret),
John (Marie), Abe (Frieda), Gerhard (Nellie), Peter (Elfrieda),
Henry (Kathy), Elma (Bert) Kornelson, Martha
(Clarence) Wall, Susan (Wayne) Whitlock, as well as
twenty-seven grandchildren and forty-eight
great-grandchildren and their spouses. The family
members of his second wife also survive Dad. They
are, Bill (Donna) Eitzen, Denver (Myrna) Eitzen, Marj
(Allan) Toews, Lydia Chetin, Jean (Bob) Thiessen, and
their families. He also has two special
sisters-in-law remaining, Beth Reimer and Margaret
Riediger.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the
family at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church (320
- 9 Street, North) Vauxhall, on Monday, July 12, 2004
from 1:00 P.M. to 1:30 P.M.
The Graveside Service will then follow at the Vauxhall
Mennonite Cemetery.

SHAWN RUGGLES
1976 - 2004

Shawn Christopher Ruggles, beloved son of Les and
Dianna Ruggles of Taber, passed away on Friday,
January 23, 2004 at the age of 27 years.
Shawn was born on July 23, 1976 at Calgary General
Hospital. He was raised in Calgary, Bonnyville,
Edmonton and Taber. He graduated from St. Mary's High
School, Taber in 1994 and went on to earn his B.B.A.
degree from Trinity Western University. Following
graduation he taught English as a second language in
Japan. Shawn was an excellent and diligent student,
was serious minded, adventurous and passionate. He
was always concerned for the welfare of his family and
inquired of each one and their personal development.
Of special interest to him was his beloved niece Elora.
He loved all sports and especially enjoyed the hiking
trips with TWU student friends.
Besides his loving parents Les and Dianna Ruggles of
Taber, he is survived by his sister Rachelle (Richard)
Wiebe and their daughter Elora of Calgary and brothers
Dale and Lyle Ruggles of Taber; his grandparents
Lawrence and Tina Pierson of Grande Prairie and Harry
and Marion Ruggles of Bow Island and also by numerous
uncles, aunts and cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandmother Ruth Pierson in
1989 and his great grandparents.

on Friday, January 30, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend
Ron Gartly, of the Evangelical Free Church,

MILDRED ROACH
1915 - 2004

Mrs. Mildred Louise Wills Bassett Roach passed away
peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2004 at the age
of 88 years.
We have lost, but God has gained a loving mother,
grandmother and friend. Mildred was born to the
family of William and Sarah Wills in Harrop, B.C. on
August 31, 1915. After her parents passing she
moved to Blackie, Alberta to live with her Uncle
George and Aunt Sadie Devitt. She later moved to
Taber where she worked as a waitress. It was there
she met Clarence Elmo Bassett. They were married
and blessed with two children Connie (Ronald)
Valgardson and Robert (Sharon) Bassett. Clarence
passed away in 1951. Mildred raised her children on
her own and later married Jack Roach. They shared a
love of nature and enjoyed fishing, picnics and many
scenic drives. Mildred was known for her avid
involvement in her many hobbies and won many ribbons
for her chocolate angel food cake, her pickling and
her favorite was her roses. She belonged to the
Taber Arts and Crafts Association where she loved
oil painting, weaving and china painting. She lived
in her home up until the time of her passing. She
was blessed with two loving husbands but her
greatest joy of all was her family and her best
buddy, her dog OJ.
Besides her two children, she will be remembered by
her grandchildren and great grandchildren Greg
(Tracy) Bassett and Cooper; Doug (Wanda) Bassett and
daughter Sara; Rick (Kerri) Bassett and son Mason;
Brian (LorRee) Valgardson and sons Chad, Jordan,
Colton and Jason; Wayne (Twyla) Valgardson and
children Travus, Curtis and Kassidy; Carrie (Roy)
Simek and children Mackenzie, Brooke and Austin; Rob
(Shelly) Bassett and daughters Tannis and Shondi;
Tracey Bassett and children Brandi and Brett; Bonnie
(Brad) Fallon and daughters Darcie and Megan; and
Dennis Basset; daughter-in-law Shirley Bassett and
sisters-in-law Millie Roach, Hazel Bassett and Sis
Wills and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents William and Sarah
Wills; husbands Clarence Bassett and Jack Roach;
brothers Charles, William, Raymond, Rex and Stan;
and sisters Ivy and Hazel.

1918 - 2001

Paul Rakos, beloved husband of the late Ida Rakos,
passed away peacefully at the age of 82 years on
Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at St Michael's Health
Centre in Lethbridge, surrounded by the love of his
family.
Paul is survived by his children Pat (Henry) Baumstark
of Lethbridge, Ron (Linda) Rakos of High River, Debbie
Rakos (Bob Turner) of Lethbridge; grandchildren, David
(Beth) Baumstark and their children Mary, Molly and Emma
of Missoula, Monica (Joseph) Massey and their son Karson
of Ottawa and Jamie Rakos and Kris Rakos of High River.
He is also survived by his sisters Julia Filkohazy of
Bassano, Elizabeth Lorenz of Coleman; sisters-in-law
Rose Kakuk of Drumheller, Ethel Wong of Lethbridge, Rose
Farago and Viola Rakos both of Calgary as well as
numerous nieces and nephews - particularly special
niece, Gail Farago of Calgary.
He was predeceased by his wife Ida, his parents,
parents-in-law, one brother Frank and sisters Rose and
Margaret as well as brothers-in-law Malcolm Farago,
Frank Filkohazy, John Schneider, John Vasko and Jim
Wong.
Paul loved people and he loved business. He worked hard
to provide for his wife and family, building a
reputation of trust and respect in the many business
ventures he undertook during his life. A practical man,
he balanced work & pleasure, always savoring life to the
fullest. He loved time with family and friends and often
commented how lucky he was to have such good friends.
In the last couple of years in spite of failing health,
he could still make a little joke, usually about himself
and took great pleasure in making the staff at both Blue
Sky Lodge and St. Michael's laugh with him. Paul was
always the first to reach out to shake hands, eager to
meet new people and to greet old friends. He will be
remembered for his easy laugh and good nature. He was a
true friend and a good dad.

Ida Eva Rakos, beloved wife of Paul Rakos, passed away
in Taber on Thursday, March 8, 1979 at the age of 55
years.
Besides her loving husband Paul, she is survived by her
children Pat (Henry) Baumstark of Taber, Ron (Linda)
Rakos of Lethbridge, Debbie Rakos of Lethbridge and four
grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Ethel
(Jim) Wong of Lethbridge and Rose (Dave) Kakuk of
Drumheller.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph
Farago and her brother Malcolm Farago.
Ida was born May 6, 1923 in Plunkett, Saskatchewan. She
moved to Drumheller Valley with her family at a young
age. She married Paul Rakos and they moved to Taber
where they have resided until the time of her passing.
