JOHN SAWKA
1952 - 2009

It is with great sadness that the family of John Sawka share in the heartbreaking loss of their Dad on Thursday, September 24, 2009 in Mayerthorpe, Alberta at the age of 57 years.
John was born to William and Mary Sawka on June 26, 1952 in High Prairie, Alberta. It was in that area that he attended school and worked on the family farm. At the age of fourteen John entered the oilpatch and hasn’t looked back since. His true passion in life, he quickly worked his way up to consultant and continued consulting until the time of his passing. He set many drilling records and received many awards along the way due to his hard working ethics and dedication. On December 17, 1976 he married Kathy Janzen and they raised their family in Vauxhall. John was extremely devoted to his family, always there when called upon, and constantly putting their needs before his own. Sadly Kathy died in 2001, taking a huge part of John with her. The loss was too great for him and he was never the same. He tried hard to hide his pain and did his best to move on. He later married Terry Robinson on September 11, 2002 in Mayerthorpe and remained with her until the time of his passing, living together on a hobby farm where he thrived in the outdoors taking care of their many animals and working in the yard. He loved the outdoors and in his spare time he would often go quadding, boating, snowmobiling or camping. We will never forget his big heart and warm smile. He was friendly and extremely generous. His big loving hugs will be missed by those who had the pleasure of getting a big squeeze out of him. His family was everything to him and he adored his grandchildren. We love him dearly and will miss him everyday for the rest of our lives.
John leaves behind his wife Terry Sawka; children Myrna (Chris) Sawka of Grande Prairie, Rhonda (Todd) Gould of Vauxhall, Amanda Sawka of Calgary and Brad (Kelly) Sawka of Vauxhall; grandchildren Wesley, Taylor, Riley, Reid and Sadie. His brother Harry Sawka; sisters Katie Ayling, Anne Hallman, Olga (Albert) LeClerc, Rose (Pat) Fay, Helen (Jerry) Belanger, Nancy (Allan) Wheatley, Vicky (Mike) Sawka and his mother Mary Sawka along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and in laws.
John was predeceased by his wife Kathy Sawka; father William Sawka; brother George Sawka; brothers-in-law Alan Ayling and Ron Hallman; sister-in-law Joan Sawka.

Today is the day...
That dreams will be made...
Memories will be created...
And love will shine...
Shine like the sun...
And the sun shines bright today...
For today is our day...
Our day to be carefree...
Our day to love...
Our day to be together...
Today is a special day...
For today belongs to us...
So let the sun shine...
The birds sing....
The clouds float by...
And the children play...
For today is our day...
Our day to love...
Our day to cherish...
And our day to be together...

Mr. Glen (Stubby) Robert Stubbert, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Josephine (Phennie) Stubbert, of Lethbridge, passed away at St. Michael's Health Centre on Sunday, November 27, 2005 at the age of 86 years.
Glen was born in Taber on March 1, 1919. Glen attended school in Taber where there was never a dull moment. Stubby and his brothers always kept the teachers on their toes. Being a regular guest of after school detentions enabled Glen, to among other things, hone his poetry recital skills. Never a "shrinking violet", Glen and his brothers were always able to create some type of mischief growing up. Love of sports, especially hockey, boxing and baseball, kept Glen very busy as a young man. As a baseball coach for many years, Glen had a special affinity for "troubled boys" helping them in whatever way he could. On January 23, 1941 in Taber, Glen married Josephine (Phennie) Ziebart, his beloved wife of 61 years until her passing in 2002. As a plumber and gas fitter, Glen and his family lived in various locations in B.C. and Alberta until settling in Lethbridge in 1968. After working in maintenance for the Lethbridge School Board, Glen and his son Ronald owned and successfully operated a hair dressing school and salon for many years. Glen was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. In his late years Glen became a passionate golf enthusiast. Always a "lover of people", Glen was armed with a joke, a smile, and a glint in his eye. As an active member of the Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre, Glen particularly enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends. Always a "family man", Glen was the Pied Piper to all children, nieces, nephews, grand and great grandchildren. Young people automatically gravitated to "Stubby". He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Glen will forever be remembered by his daughters; Anita (Tom) DeZeng and their daughter Michelle Morneau, her children Tyler and Cassidy, their father Don Swager, son Michael Bowker, his daughter Hailey and her mother Mary Fredricks; Glen's daughter Valerie Stubbert (Henry Sullivan), her children Natalie (Lonny) Halverson, their children Amanda and James; Valerie's son Brett (Teresa) Stimson and their daughter Cayla Jo;  Henry's sons, Stephen, Matthew and Michael.
