FUNERAL SERVICE AUDIO RECORDING

Jacquie West

1932 - 2022

Jacqueline West (née Ririe), beloved wife of the late Allen Dee West, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at the age of 89 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to meet the family at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday, September 17, 2022 between 10:00 A.M. to 10:40 A.M.

The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. Burial followed at the Barnwell Cemetery.

Jacquie will be dearly missed by her children Gordon (Judy) West of St.Paul, Doug (Val) West of Edmonton, Carol (Thom) Evanson of Taber, Joan (Kendon) Bennett of Taber, Brenda (Barry) Clements of Taber, Barbara (the late Marvin) Anderson of Barnwell and Jerry (Maxine) West of Raymond; forty seven grandchildren, one hundred twenty four great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.

Jacquie was born in Magrath on October 22, 1932. She was the sixth of seven children born to Morris Elmer and Margaret Annie (née Watson) Ririe.

Jacquie married Allen Dee West on July 21, 1951. Together they raised their seven children in Raymond. They later moved to Taber where Allen worked for the Alberta Sugar Company for forty seven years.

As a young girl she loved riding their family horses Buck and Doll. She was very athletic and enjoyed baseball, basketball, curling and swimming. In 1994, at the age of sixty two, Jacquie qualified for the Huntsman World Senior Games in St.George, Utah winning a bronze medal in the 100 metre freestyle. She was genuinely happy for all achievers. She loved to watch her grandchildren play sports or perform as well. She loved to see hard work, discipline and commitment in any form, and knew developing those qualities would take them far in life. Jacquie was an excellent seamstress and made most of her girl's dresses growing up. She was careful to teach them to cook and clean, to be polite and grateful, and to always return borrowed items in better condition than you took them. If you ever went shopping with her, she was busy straightening up the isles or re-folding or re-hanging whatever was out of place. She was even seen picking up pinecones that had fallen in the church parking lot to make it look tidy. Jacquie left things better than she found them. She was patient and thoughtful, always putting your comfort over her own. She worked right along side us with any chores, and it didn't seem like work when she was there. Hoeing sugar beets is where we learned to sing a-cappella in four part harmony.

Jacquie knew all the words to the hymns by heart and loved to sing them. She recognized the power of music and was sensitive to spiritual things. Allen and Jacquie served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Cove Fort, Utah mission. She loved the Lord and served faithfully her whole life. Jacquie listened more than she talked and did what she could to avoid contention at all cost, yet stood her ground on things that really mattered to her. She was velvet covered steel. All her children agree with Abe Lincoln who said, "All I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother". She leaves behind many who will miss her dearly.
