DOROTHY PICKETT

1929 - 2007

Dorothy Jean Pickett, beloved wife of Floyd Pickett of Hillcrest (formerly of Taber), passed away at home on Monday, April 30, 2007 at the age of 77 years, a result of her battle with ALS.
Anyone who knew Dorothy, knew that the kitchen was her domain.  Over the years, Dorothy fed many people at her table.  Anybody was welcome in her kitchen, even people she did not really like.  Friends and foes alike would both get a cup of coffee or tea and, if they were lucky, the best damned baking powder biscuits in the world!  There were no taboo subjects at Dorothy's table.  She never shied away from any topic and always bluntly gave her opinion, whether you liked it or not! Not surprisingly, there were more than a few lively debates over the tops of her coffee mugs!
Dorothy was a highly practical woman, but she was also very creative.  Her abilities in the kitchen were matched by her sewing skills.  During her retirement, she was thrilled to finally own a high end sewing machine!  Many of her family and friends have beautiful blankets and quilts that were made by her hands.  She would not waste a piece of material, transforming the simplest old scraps into a beautiful quilt design.  These items became treasured articles, not only because of their high quality, but also because Dorothy made each one with love.
Please join Dorothy's family and friends in remembering this feisty, independent and unforgettable woman.
The Celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Afterwards, Dorothy's family invites you to Luigi's Pizza and Steak House to once more "sit at Dorothy's table".  Please come, eat, drink and share your favorite stories of Dorothy with others who also loved her.
