MARGARET POWELL

1917 - 2000

Margaret Powell, beloved wife of the Late George Powell, passed away in Taber on Saturday, February 26, 2000 at the age of 82 years.
Margaret was born in Coaldale on August 2, 1917 the daughter of Vincent and Irene Mereski. She received her schooling in Taber and later married George Powell on October 12, 1940. They farmed in the Taber area and continued to farm following their move into the Town of Taber in 1949. Margaret enjoyed her leisure time with painting art, reading and tending to her garden. She and her husband would spend several months of the year salmon fishing at Vancouver Island. She taught Primary at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Barnwell and was also a member of the Royal Purple. Margaret’s sense of humor, soft heart, caring nature and love for her family will be lovingly remembered by those she cared for most, her family.
Margaret leaves to cherish her memory, a son Bob (Peg) Powell and their daughter Jacqueline and her daughter Jessica; a daughter Joan (Johnny) Anderson and daughter LeAnn Jensen; a son Donald (Viola) Powell and their son Mike. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers John (Margaret) Mereski, Anne (Alvin) Clayton, Alice Cowie, Stella Ingoldsby, Helen (Bob) Knowlden, Janet (Harold) Dench, Vincent (Audrey) Mereski; her brothers and sisters-in-law Ann Allen, Mike (Jeanette) Powell, Mary Peterson, Billy (Mary) Powell, Alex (Olga) Powell, Helen Cotton, Johnny Korsa, George (Carol) Korsa and John Gettman.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents Vincent and Irene Mereski; her father and mother-in-law Nick and Jane Korsa, a grandson Blair Powell; her sisters Jennie (Walter) Ilnicki and Mary Gettman; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill Allen, Wilfred Peterson, Fred Cotton, Leo Peterson, Stanley Seleski, Jim Cowie and Roy Ingoldsby and a sister-in-law in infancy.
The Funeral Service was held at St. Theodore’s Anglican Church, 5120 - 44 Avenue, Taber on Friday, March 3, 1999 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Dale Lang officiating. Interment followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
