ARVID NORDQUIST

1919 - 2001

Eric Arvid Nordquist, beloved husband of Myrtle Nordquist of Taber, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2001 at the age of 81 years.
Arvid was born at Standard, Alberta on December 26, 1919 the son of John and Susan Nordquist. Arvid enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army and served over seas in WWII. He has been an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and had served on the executive and served a term as President. He also was involved with the Civilian Committee Air Cadets. Arvid was known by his family and friends as the “king of dishwashers” and enjoyed canvassing for many charities. For many years he was one of “Santa’s helpers” and enjoyed dressing in his red and white suit and visiting with the excited children at Christmas time. He was a long time employee of the Taber Irrigation District where he worked as a dragline operator. Upon his retirement he spent much time “go’in fishin’.” Arvid and Myrtle spent several winters in Arizona where he learned the art of working with stained glass.
Besides his wife Myrtle, he will be forever remembered by his son Neil (Renee) Nordquist and their family Eric, Jerusha (Chris), Thomas, Jonathan, Carlie, Michael, Layne and William; daughter Marie (Jim) Raymer and their children, Kara, Becky (Dan), Michael (Karen), Anna (Jacob), Adam and Benjamin; son John (Isabel) Nordquist and their children, Tyler and Christa; his great-grandsons, Michael and Nathan Jones and Gavin Raymer; three brothers and four sisters as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Arvid was predeceased by four sisters and a brother.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and also in the Relief Society Room of the Church on Thursday, July 12, 2001 from 12:30 P.M. to 1:40 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, July 12, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. Interment followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
