1935 - 2017

Jelle Ate Oevering, beloved husband of the late Maria Oevering, passed away in Taber on Friday, October 6, 2017 at the age of 82 years.

 The Funeral Service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden. 

 Jelle is survived by his brothers Piet (Nell) Oevering of Calgary, Gerald (Tina) Oevering of Vauxhall, Richard Oevering of Taber and Mike Oevering of Lethbridge as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 He was predeceased by his wife Maria; parents Paul and Mary Oevering; brothers Newton Oevering and George Oevering.

 Jelle was born in Holland on August 27, 1935 to Paul and Mary Oevering. At the age of fourteen, he immigrated to Canada with his parents and brothers, arriving in Halifax in April of 1950. From Halifax the family travelled for four days by train to Barnwell, where they resided two miles west of town. Jelle went to school for a short time, then started working on a farm in Burdett. He later went to work for the PFRA in Vauxhall and while there he took correspondence courses in various studies. Soon he became an instrument man, surveying farm lands around Hays and later in Brooks. Jelle worked many years in that position until his retirement. While in Brooks he met the love of his life Maria Hrup and they were married in 1981.
