Laurence Eldridge

1942 - 2018

Laurence Thomas Eldridge, beloved husband of Deanna Eldridge (nee Anderson), passed away peacefully in Taber on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the age of 76 with his family by his side. 

 Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. and at the church prior to the funeral service on Thursday, December 13, 2018 between 10:00 A.M. and 10:40 A.M.

 The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden. 

 Laurence is survived by his wife of fifty one years Deanna; children Becky Eldridge of Medicine Hat, Pam (Jason) Matthews of Taber, Dana (Mark) Evans of Medicine Hat and Shauna Eldridge of Medicine Hat; grandchildren Skylar (Tehani), Keaton, Tyson (Jamie-Lee), Daxon, Carter, Colwyn, Gryffin, Keona, Kathryn, Athena and Alexzander;  great grandchildren Payton and Kaisley. He is also survived by his siblings Henry Eldridge, Eva (Grant) Fraser, Frank (Janyce) Eldridge and Phyllis Eldridge;  sisters-in-law Brenda Anderson, Janis Clark and Veneta (Doug) Cooper as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

 He was predeceased by his parents Jim and Eveyln Eldridge; in-laws Dean and Maydell Anderson; sister Fae Pemberton; brothers-in-law Reg Anderson and Fred Clark;  sister-in-law Jolayne Anderson.  

 Laurence was born and raised in Falmouth, Nova Scotia in 1942, the third child of Jim and Evelyn Eldridge. He grew up working with his family on their farm. Laurence headed out west to Alberta when he was seventeen years old and worked on seismograph lines. He came to Taber in the mid sixties, where he started his agriculture career at Kinniburgh farms. He met and married Deanna Anderson in May 1967 and they were blessed with four daughters.  Laurence worked at the Taber Seed Cleaning Plant and then pursued his Heavy Duty Mechanic certificate while at Green Power. After several years at Green Power he moved to the Taber Sugar Factory and worked in the Outside Equipment shop.  Laurence retired from working full-time in 2005, but did continue with seasonal part-time jobs. Laurence taught his family the value of working hard.

 He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Laurence fulfilled many callings over the years and loved serving others.  

 He loved his family both near and far. Laurence was proud to be the father of four girls and taught them they could do anything.  He was later blessed with many grandsons and some precious granddaughters. Laurence was always willing to have the kids tag along with whatever he was doing. In last few years, he was blessed with two great grandchildren and one more on the way.
