Elmer Megyes

1938 - 2022

Elmer Andrew Megyes, beloved husband of Carol Megyes, passed away in Taber on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the age of 83 years.

The funeral service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.

Besides Carol his loving wife of fifty three years, Elmer is survived by his children John (Joely) Megyes of Coaldale, Carolyn (Fred) Moerkerk of Lethbridge, Mary-Ann (Arthur) Tingey of Edmonton and Julie (Hugue) Pineault of Leoville, Saskatchewan; grandchildren Lyndley, Aidan, Robyn (Gerrick), Quinlan, Jarvis (Amber), Toni (Brandon), Sawyer, Kelli, Pascal and Olivia; great grandchildren Elliot, Chelsea and Liliana. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Bob (Lana) Krakowski and their children Layne Krakowski and Shana Krakowski; nephews Art Jonker and Doug Jonker and family.

He was predeceased by his parents Tony and Anna Megyes, sister Maggie Jonker, in-laws Bob and Mary Krakowski.

Elmer was born July 29, 1938 at the Galt Hospital in Lethbridge to Tony and Anna Megyes. He was raised on the family farm east of Taber. Elmer took over the family farm when his father retired, which he operated until 1986. Elmer and Carol made their way into Taber and worked as custodians at the Taber Legion for approximately ten years.

Elmer had a love for classic cars, especially the fifties and sixties vintage. He had a mechanical background and would always tinker and was continuously trying to improve things. He enjoyed travelling to Vegas on numerous occasions. Elmer had a love of music as well he enjoyed dancing.

Elmer always had a smile on his face and would take the time to start a conversation with anyone. He enjoyed telling stories and always had a joke to tell.
