Harry Carlson

1930 - 2022

George Harry Carlson, beloved husband of the late Helen Carlson, passed away peacefully in Raymond on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at the age of 91 years.

  The funeral service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 1:30 P.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden. 

 Harry is survived by his children Don (Cindy) Carlson of Taber, Tim (Susan) Carlson of Taber, Bonnie Carlson of Taber and Casey (Donna) Carlson of Lethbridge; step children Dexter Buckley of Taber and his daughters Jennifer and Heather and their families and Twila (John) Wiebe of Creston, British Columbia as well as his sister Mabel Ernst.

 He was predeceased by his wife Helen, son Dennis Carlson, stepson Lyle Buckley, sister Hazel Fitzpatrick and half siblings Dora Kinzell and Frank Buckley.

 Harry was born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan to George and Emily (née Perry) Carlson. He left home at a young age and spent a few years living and working in northern Saskatchewan, eventually settling in southern Alberta. Here he met Helen Briggs and they became a family with her three small children. Harry and Helen had five children together. For many years, they lived in Travers until 1967 when they moved to Taber.

 Harry and his sons worked as commercial fisherman at the lakes around southern Alberta. As well, Harry worked many years as a grader operator on road construction.

 He was an avid antique collector - cars, jars and signs to name a few. Harry’s life changed a lot after Helen passed away and he never was very social He lived his life his way, but his family was very important to him. He will be missed.

 If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Harry’s name may be made directly to charity of one’s choice.

 The family would like to thank the staff at the Good Samaritan Prairie Ridge in Raymond for their excellent care over the past few months.
