Olga Djani

1931 - 2022

Olga Djani, beloved wife of the late Mirko Djani, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the age of 91 years.

Relatives and Friends were invited to Prayers at Southland Funeral Chapel 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 5:00 P.M.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. A private burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.

Olga is survived by two daughters and their families Mary (Bill) Gouw of Taber and their children Jason (Heather) Gouw (their children Ryker and Amara), Angela (Ryan) Stang (their children Tyler (Emily), Tatum (Tyson), Baron and Tommi) and Kristina (Jerry) Thompson (their children Hayden and Nash); Jeanne (Chester) Rudolf of Taber and their children Michael (Amber) Rudolf (their children Mirko and Jude) and Lindsay (Dan) DeBona (their children Taia, Vinnie and Dax). She is also survived by three sisters in Australia and their families as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Olga was born in Rakovac, Yugoslavia on August 6, 1931 to Stefan and Maria Javni. Olga had two brothers and six sisters whom she loved dearly. She married Mirko Djani in 1950 and a short time later, Mary was born. To make a better life for themselves, a decision was made to immigrate to Canada in November 1953 and ten years later, another baby girl, Jeanne was born to complete their family.

Olga was known as Baba to all that knew her and she was a popular little lady! When we spoke about Baba, everyone knew exactly who we were speaking of; surname not required. Nobody could love like Baba. In the days before she passed away, she stated several times that she does not hate anyone and never has. We must accept everyone, no matter their nationality or religion; we are all children of God and she truly lived by this statement.

Baba’s world was her family and she rarely missed a family get together and was always the life of the party. It is quite incredible that Baba’s will to live was so strong that she waited until her last great grandson Jude, was born on September 5, 2022. We are so happy that she was able to hold him. Baba resided in the Clearview Lodge and she was proud to say that she was the longest living resident there. On October 1, 2022 it would have been twenty two years! She often referred to the Lodge as “My little room in my big house”. She loved her home at the Lodge and all the staff there.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Olga’s name may be made directly to Clearview Lodge Resident Council, 4407- 51 Avenue, Taber, Alberta T1G 2H6.

Our deepest thanks go out to Joan and her staff for their compassion and love that was shown to our sweet Baba. Special Thanks to the nurses at the Taber Hospital for your care and support during this last week. A very special THANK YOU to Dr. Steed whom she had total trust that he would do everything possible to keep her life on earth comfortable.
