IRENE MITCHELL

1918 - 1998

Irene Violet Mitchell, beloved wife of Ormand Mitchell, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 1998 in Bow Island at the age of 80 years.
Irene was born April 28, 1918 at Winnifred. She grew up in the Bow Island area and married Ormand in 1940. Together they worked their family farm and retired in Bow Island. Their retirement was enjoyed by travelling and wintering in Arizona where they made many new friends.
Besides her loving husband Ormand, Irene is survived by her four children Carolyn (Al) Janzen, Brian Mitchell, Bernice Mitchell and Loren (Susan) Mitchell; fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Irene was predeceased by her parents Jules and Mary LaVenne, brothers Jules LaVenne and Clement LaVenne, sisters Josephine Lein, Yvonne Egan, Julia Egan, Louise Locke, Alice Henderson and an infant grandson David Mitchell.
Irene was active throughout her life in community and volunteer work in Brownies, the UCW and baby health clinics as well as numerous hobbies and handicrafts. Her passion for helping the less fortunate was well-known and she made hundreds of quilts to give away.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Sunday, November 22, 1998 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 139 - 2 Avenue West, Bow Island on Monday, November 23, 1998 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Jeff Crittenden officiating. Interment followed at the Bow Island Cemetery.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Irene’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
