EMIL ZIEBERT

1922 - 1999

Emil Ziebert, beloved husband of Vicky Ziebert of Taber, passed away on Monday, May 24, 1999 at the age of 77 years.
Emil was born on May 21, 1922 in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan and in 1937 he moved to Taber with his family where he helped his mom and dad with farming. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army serving with the nineth Canadian Army Service Corp. where he served overseas for five and a half years and was fortunate enough to return home. Emil served in Canada, the United Kingdom and in continental Europe. During World War II, he earned several medals of service which included the 1935 - 1945 Star, France & Germany Star, Defense Medal, 1939 - 1945 Canadian Volontaire Service Medal, Imperial King George 1V5V10 Medal and the Normandy Medal. Emil devoted his life to serve the Legion. He served as President, first Vice President and Executive and Service Officer for over forty years. He received his life membership and his fifty year Royal Canadian Legion Pin. The highest award for outstanding work from Dominion Command - the L.M.S.M. and the Palm Leaf which we so proudly display. Emil worked for the Town of Taber until his retirement in 1984 and oftebn laughed saying, “One thing about being retired, you never get a day off”. He volunteered many hours helping at the Legion, and was very proud of our Legion Park Youth Center and was named Ranger E. by his brother Gene.
Emil loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren, especially more so when his illness began slowing him down. He was so grateful for his children who spent so much time helping and cheering him up; and his special nurse Vickie Lynne who was always there at the right time. His children never forgetting to say “Dad, we love you” when they left. Emil loved his yard and garden, and when he was to sick to look after it, he made sure Vicky knew exactly how things had to be done. We shall miss this special person called Emil, a husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbour. Our special time with you will live forever. See you Pa-Pa - love you from your special angel Sasha Victoria.
Besides his loving wife Vicky of forty three years, Emil will be fondly remembered by his children Vickie Lynne (Layne) Baceda of Lethbridge, Jennifer (Mark) Boh of Lethbridge, CheyAnne (John) Van Oostenbrugge of Lethbridge, Gordon (Sandy) Ziebert of Calgary and Shannon (Adrian) Struyk of Welling as well as seventeen grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Vic (Rae) Siebert of Calgary, Gene (Elsie) Siebert of Sarnia, Ontario; his sisters Tory (Howard) Valgardson of Taber, Phennie (Glen) Stubbert of Lethbridge, Lorraine (Gordon) Lane of Bow Island; sisters-in-law Marvel Ziebert, Ann Lobay, Cassie Stefanyk and Kay Tkatchuk as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Emil was predeceased by his parents Mike and Matilda Ziebart, brothers Jack and Lenny Ziebert and sisters, Rose Zalesak, Betty Rae and Annie Fettig.
