JOE MCNIVEN

1914 - 2000

Joseph “Joe” McNiven, beloved husband of Ellie McNiven of 53 years, passed away peacefully in Taber on Thursday, June 8, 2000 at the age of 86 years.
Besides his wife Ellie, Joe is survived by his daughter Heather (Reidar) Odland and his sons, John (Carol), Allister (Marcy), Joe (Roxzana) and Donald (Gerry) all of the Vauxhall area. Also surviving Joe are his nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a sister Agnes Lamond who now resides in Lethbridge.
Joe arrived in Canada from Scotland in 1924 with his parents, Donald and Janet; his brothers Donald, James, and Neil and his sisters, Mary, Jessie and Agnes. An athletic soul, he found great joy in playing soccer as a boy in Scotland, curling as a young man, and golf consuming many happy hours with friends and family. Camping was near and dear to his heart as well. Friends will fondly recall his warm smile, firm handshake and willingness to len a hand. From the hearts of the family who will never forget. He was loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
The Funeral Service was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 324 - 2 Avenue North, Vauxhall on Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at 2:00 P.M with Reverend Father Jim de los Angeles officiating. Burial followed in the Vauxhall Cemetery.
