VAN VAN ORMAN

1919 - 2000

Van Demar Van Orman, beloved husband of Bird Van Orman of Taber, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2000 at the age of 81 years.
Van was born in Taber on December 12, 1919 where he also received his schooling. Following school he served in the Royal Canadian Navy for five years. Van married Bird Mendenhall on December 25, 1941. Following his service in the Navy, they settled in the Big Bend area where they farmed until 1961. In 1961 he attended University in Calgary and received his degree in Education. Van taught in Lethbridge at the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute and retired to Taber in 1978. Van was active in the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints and was active in employee and community affairs and served on Town Council for a number of years, two of which he served as Mayor.
Besides his loving wife Bird, Van will be always remembered by his children, Sandra (Ken) Pierson of Taber; Sharon (Don) Platt of Barnwell; Ronald (Janelle) of Raymond; Richard (Karen) of Redcliff; Collette (Glenn) Iwaasa of Raymond; Colin (Janeen) of Bountiful, Utah; Larry (Barbara) of Taber; Iris (Kent) Evanson of Stirling and Jane (Layne) Johnson of Barnwell; fifty three grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren and a brother Stanley of St. George, Utah and a sister-in-law Deane Burbank of Magrath.
Van was predeceased by four grandchildren.
Friends were invited to meet with the family prior to the funeral service in the Relief Society Room from 11:30 A.M. to 12:45 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, December 26, 2000 at 1:00 P.M. with Bishop Bruce Francis conducting. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
