Nell Lanser

1928 - 2016

Neeltje Marytje Lanser, beloved wife of Jan Lanser, passed away in Lethbridge on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the age of 87 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, October 14, 2016 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.

The Funeral Service was held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 1818 - 5 Avenue South, Lethbridge on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. The Burial Service followed at the Vauxhall Cemetery at 2:30 P.M.

Nell will forever be cherished by Jan Lanser, her loving and devoted husband of sixty five years. She will lovingly be remembered by her only daughter Sharon Lanser of Vancouver; her sons John (Karen) Lanser of Taber, Rodney (Barb) Lanser of Pittsburgh and Art (Michele) Lanser of Vauxhall.  She will also be so sadly missed by her grandchildren Tiana (Rob) Owens, Sherisse Lanser (Daniel Pupo Deriet), Brittany (Graeme) Bishop, Kyle (Kimberley) Lanser, Jillian (Chris) Roberts, Stev (Lyndsey) Lanser, Brody (Denae) Lanser and Jamie (Kyle) Davidson. Mom always savored opportunities to spend time with her sixteen great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brothers, sisters and in-laws still living in the Netherlands.

Nell was predeceased by her son Donald Lanser in 1979 at the age of twenty. We all feel so incredibly blessed to have been loved by her.

A lady of a million talents and a spirit of a thousand warriors.  Nell was born on December 24, 1928 in the Netherlands and was raised during a time of war and social unrest. In her teens she worked in Amsterdam, which she loved… the big city with culture, good fashion and knowledge. Her personality shone so brightly that it caught the eye of a handsome farmer. With dogged persistence, Jan finally won her heart and they were wed in June of 1951. They were blessed with a family of four boys and one girl. Nell touched everyone she met with her impeccable style and elegant grace. A lady well ahead of her time… she was feisty and worldly and not willing to be silenced by sexist cultural standards. Despite her disabilities, she was a true driving force… not willing to tolerate or succumb to her lack of health, social expectations or whatever everyone considered the norm. If you had the pleasure of knowing or even meeting this amazing lady, you are the one that was blessed.
