1928 - 2018

Irma Germain Major, beloved wife of the late Bruce Major, passed away in Bow Island on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the age of 89 years.

 Relatives and friends were invited to pay their respects prior to the funeral at the Evangelical Free Church, 214 - 4 Avenue West, Bow Island on Thursday, January 11, 2018 between 12:00 P.M. and 1:30 P.M.

 The Funeral Service was held at the Evangelical Free Church, 214 - 4 Avenue West, Bow Island on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. Burial followed at the Bow Island Cemetery. 

 Irma is survived by her children Robert Major of Taber; Iris (Leslie) Martens of Bow Island and their children Cheryl (Bernie) Greenfield (children Sam Greenfield), Cameron (Christy) Martens (children Alayna, Kierann and Natalie), Colleen (Blake) Johnson (children Ellianna, Jolen, Elkanon and Lochlan), Conrad (Amy) Martens (children Aidyn, Callie, Ryder and William) and Cevin Martens; Beverly (Andrew) Dykstra of Burdett and their children Angie (Ken) Pringle, Nick (Karyn) Dykstra (children Isabella, Logan and Nolan) and Danielle (Devin) Hermanson (children Marshall and Afton); Linda (Richard) Drader of Prince George, British Columbia and their children Christopher Drader, Robbynne Drader and Zane Drader. She is also survived by her brother Andrew (Eileen) DeZaeyer; sister-in-law  Carol DeZaeyer and  as well as many nieces and nephews who knew and loved her.

 She was predeceased by her husband Bruce Major; son David Major; great grandchild Mckenzie Hermanson; parents Gillon and Mary DeZaeyer; siblings Marguerite Reid, Martha Schayes, Gabrielle Henry, Joseph DeZaeyer, Jean Sloan, August DeZaeyer, Morris DeZaeyer, Louis DeZaeyer, George DeZaeyer, Jules DeZaeyer, Maggalena Lindstrom and Camilie DeZaeyer.

 Irma was born to Gillon and Mary DeZaeyer in Lac La Nonne, Alberta on February 4, 1928. She spent her early life helping on the family farm and caring for her dad and two brothers after her mom passed away in 1948. Irma met Bruce at a Farmer’s Day picnic and got married on March 25, 1949 in Onoway, Alberta. Irma happily spent her years as Bruce’s helpmate, whether it was doing housework, raising children, tending animals or working out in the fields.

 Irma loved playing cards, crocheting, sewing, knitting, reading, visiting with grand kids and great grandkids, eating potato pancakes and going out for coffee and fries.

 Irma will be remembered for her sense of humour and wit, love for her family, love of farming and love for going out for coffee. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her four children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
