Allister Joseph McNiven, beloved spouse of Marcy Huntley, went into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, June 16, 2018, swiftly and unexpectedly at the age of 67 years. Cancer was not about to lose a second time.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 324 - 2 Avenue North, Vauxhall on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 11:30 A.M. Burial followed at the Vauxhall Cemetery.

He will be lovingly remembered by Marcy Huntley, his best friend of thirty six years; his son Jason McNiven and two granddaughters Taylor and Jayden. He is also survived by his older brother John (Carol) McNiven of Vauxhall, nieces Wendy and Laura, nephew John and all their babies and grand babies; his favorite sister Heather (Reider) Odland of Enchant and nieces Patricia Odland, Betty Dick, Jacelyn Thompson and their children; his younger brother Joe (Roxzana) McNiven and nieces Mackenzie and Brooke; youngest brother Donald McNiven of Lethbridge and nieces Jessica and Stephanie and grandnephew Griffin.

He was predeceased by his father Joe McNiven in 2000 and his mother Ellie McNiven in 2010. He was also predeceased by his dogs Skunk, Tattoo and Lucky. He loved them dearly and they him. Tattoo’s ashes will be taking this journey with him.

Al was born in the Taber hospital on April 11 1951. He completed high school in Vauxhall. Al started into sports playing baseball, curling and his powerful performance on the high school basketball team. Following high school, he went to work in the family business, McNiven Excavating Ltd., retiring in 2013.

Al was a golfer for most of his life and for twenty five years played a strong game. When he wasn’t golfing, he was often found volunteering to improve the course. For the last six years, golfing gave way to camping and fishing. His final days were spent getting his fishing gear ready for his next trip to the pass.
