McKay was born in Lethbridge on September 10, 1995. He spent his early years in Barnwell where he had many great friends, teammates, coaches and teachers. McKay attended WR Myers High School during grades 10 and 11 and graduated from Lethbridge Collegiate Institute in 2013. He completed three years of an carpentry apprenticeship at Lethbridge College. McKay was a talented carpenter employed by Bevco Construction. He was skilled and knowledgeable in his trade and was always eager to learn new things.

The most important part of McKay's life were his family and friends. McKay loved all aspects of life including camping, fishing, hunting and playing on the Well-Tech softball team. He and his girlfriend, Lindsay Langkopf shared many memories together riding horses and especially loved their dogs, Phoebe and Maverick.

He had an infectious smile and lit up any room he was in. McKay was the first to give a hug, from the bottom of his heart, which always seemed to melt away all of your problems. He was loved by anyone who knew him.

The family would like to sincerely thank all those who have reached out to them during this difficult time.
