Eugenia Strojwas

1924 - 2019

Eugenia Mary Strojwas (nee Ogibowski), beloved wife of the late Edward Strojwas, passed away in Taber on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at the age of 95 years.

Relatives and friends were to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 between 3:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M.

The burial service was held at Mount Pleasant Burial Park on George Street East (behind Shoppers Drug Mart), Swift Current, Saskatchewan on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. (CST)

Eugenia is survived by her children Irene (Barry) Karol of Kelliher, Saskatchewan, Walter Strojwas of Pincher Creek, Joseph (Angela) Strojwas of Taber and David Strojwas of Pincher Creek; her grandchildren Tammy Karol, Cheryl Karol (Tony Benko), April (Lee) Hutchinson, Robert (Nicole) Karol, Joanne (Jon) Davoren, Melanie (Kurtis) Holland, Christopher Strojwas, Johnathan Strojwas, Parker Strojwas and by numerous great grandchildren.

Eugenia was born in Luv, Poland on April 13, 1924. In 1939 during the German invasion of Poland while separated from her father, her mother and three brothers were shipped in cattle cars to Siberia where they buried their mother. After the war, the children were sent thru Kazakhstan, Teheran and onto Kenya where Eugenia lived in a Polish children’s camp until her brothers settled in Toronto and she settled in southern Saskatchewan in 1949, where she met her husband Edward Strojwas.

Eugenia had qualified for the Siberian Cross, but declined because she insisted Canada had taken her in and Canada was her home.

Eugenia and Edward resided in Coronach, Saskatchewan until 1966, and when Edward retired, they moved to Swift Current, Saskatchewan. There, together, they grew the most luscious gardens passing the vegetables to passersby over the fence. After Edward’s passing in 1986, Eugenia moved to Lethbridge before moving to Taber in 2006.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Eugenia’s name may be made directly to the Taber and District Health Foundation, 4326 - 50 Avenue, Taber, Alberta T1G 1N9 www.tdhf.ca.
