On April 2, 1952, Valerie was born the oldest of eight children to Norman and Lorraine Hansen. She spent her youth helping on the family farm outside of Taber. Valerie spent many hours on horseback and was the Taber Rodeo Princess. She met Brian in high school, and they have spent the last fifty years growing together and supporting each other through this journey. Four children blessed their lives, which they raised on the farm. She had a passion for sewing, crafting and decorating. Valerie spent many hours making costumes for Halloween, Christmas concerts and Taber Players. Over the years she has built an eclectic collection, reaching over one hundred different nativities. She loved being  in nature and found peace sitting on “her bench” along the Old Man River ridge. Valerie was dedicated to her faith, testimony and service to others. She really loved the people she served. Valerie spent many years involved in the 4-H program as a member, supporter and leader. She LOVED her grandchildren and loved that she got to be involved in their everyday lives and made it a priority to cheer them on at band concerts, 4-H, sporting events and anything they did. Valerie was a shining example of love, kindness, perseverance, and Christianity. Her most prized possessions were relationships with her family and friends.
