Garry Melanson

1956 - 2022

Garry Thomas Melanson, beloved father, brother and friend, passed away peacefully in Lethbridge on Monday, May 30, 2022 at the age of 65 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, June 2, 2022 between 3:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M.

A private burial service was held at the Taber Memorial Garden on Saturday, June 4, 2022.

Garry will be lovingly remembered by his son Steven (Heather) Charlton of Raymond; grandchildren Kenadi, Shelbi and Lydia Charlton; one great grandchild Clayton Charlton-Lockhart; Steven’s mother and former spouse, Karen Charlton. Also left to mourn are his siblings Pat (Clarence) Friesen of Vanderhoof, British Columbia, Toni (Gary) Stevenson of Blackfalds and Shirley Burns of Grand Prairie.

He was predeceased by his father Patrick Carlin, mother Florence Filgas and the man he called dad, Lloyd Filgas; siblings Rose Fairhurst, Lorraine (Jim) Peters and Larry Melanson.

Garry was born in Didsbury on August 28, 1956. He spent his early childhood in Watervalley until the family moved to Taber. He called many places home as a young adult until he and Karen settled in Raymond to raise their young son, Steven. In Raymond, he developed a thriving business in the automotive industry through his love of fast cars and being his own boss. Garry worked hard with what he had and was willing to help anyone he could. He loved his family and took the time to show it. Garry had a huge heart and a wonderful sense of humour which will be missed by everyone who knew him.
