HAROLD JONES

1913 - 1999

Harold Burne Jones passed away at the Edith Cavell Care Center in Lethbridge on Saturday, May 22, 1999.
Harold was born on a homestead northwest of Grassy Lake on November 12, 1913. He was the youngest son of Ernest and Daisy Jones. He obtained his schooling in Grassy Lake and in 1931 started a life long career in farming and ranching. Harold and his brother Albert started a sheep ranch that they later changed to a cattle ranch with purebred Angus. He continued his interest in farming and ranching until he moved to Lethbridge in 1993.
Harold lived for many years with his mother and father on the shore of Sherburne Lake, south of Grassy Lake. After his parents passed away, he married Doris Fowler and in 1960 they built a new home in Grassy Lake. After Doris passed away, Harold continued to live in Grassy Lake. For most of his adult life Harold was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a quiet and gentle man with a great sense of humor and he will be missed by all who knew him. He was very close to his brother Albert and they spent many enjoyable years together raising sheep and cattle. In their later years, they travelled to Europe and Eastern Canada with their square dancing group. It was at a square dance that he met his wife Margaret. In 1973 he married Margaret Bell and they resided in Grassy Lake until 1993 when they moved to Grandview Manor in Lethbridge.
Besides his wife Margaret and her family Randy and Janice Bell of Edmonton and their children Jenny, Melanie, Matthew and Heather, he also leaves behind a nephew Neil (Pat) Jones of Grassy Lake and nieces Kathy (Len) Sanderson of Taber and Eleanor (Fred) Kinniburgh of Lethbridge; eight grand nieces and grand nephews and fifteen great grandnieces and great grandnephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife Doris, father Ernest, mother Daisy, brothers Albert and Russell, sister Mabel and sister-in-law Edna.
The Funeral Service was held at St. Theodore’s Anglican Church, 5120 - 44 Avenue, Taber on Friday, May 28, 1999 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Dale Lang officiating. Interment followed at the Prairieview Cemetery, Grassy Lake.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Harold’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
