STELLA CHMIELEWSKI

1924 - 1999

Stella (Anaztasia) Chmielewski, beloved wife of Martin Chmielewski of Taber, passed away suddenly but peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 18, 1999 at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital at the age of 75 years.
Stella was born on March 25, 1924 in Liderovice, Moravia, Czechoslovakia. She came to Canada in 1926 at the age of two years and resided in Raymond where her family farmed. Stella also worked in the Raymond Sugar Factory. She met Martin Chmielewski in 1945. Martin had come to his sisters farm in Raymond after his discharge from the Canadian Army. Martin and Stella were married on February 15, 1947 and recently celebrated their fiftieth Anniversary. After their marriage, they moved to Cranford where they lived and worked on a farm. They moved to Taber in 1952 where they resided until her passing.
Stella worked for Empress Foods for twenty four years. She was very involved with children and young adults with all her work in Brownies, Cubs, second Taber Group Committee and the Flatlands District. She was a member of the CWL having been president for eight years as well as holding many other positions.
Stella’s love was cooking and baking - No one ever left “Mrs. C’s” kitchen hungry. There was also a bed and food for anyone. Even in her later years as her health failed, she was always wanting to serve someone something, even though we told her we know how to help ourselves. Fondest memories of Stella were the warmth and odors of her busy kitchen as she was always baking for one cause or another. The coffee pot was always on.
Stella is survived by her loving husband Martin and four children Ron (Sharon) of Coaldale, Brenda of Lethbridge, Frances (Sam) Kadoyama and Mark both of Taber. She is also survived by her precious grandchildren Aaron, Leanne, Micheal and Sara and her extra special great granddaughter Kyra and also by her brothers and sisters Mary Chudik in Czechoslovakia, Frank (Anna) Bartosek of Lethbridge, Betty (Mark) Bracizewski of Surrey, British Columbia, Jerry Bartosek of Lethbridge, Ann (Norm) Dorey of Surrey, British Columbia, Jenny (Chester) Turner of Lethbridge, Steve (Arlene) Bartosek of Lethbridge and her extended family Albina Zachar of Lethbridge, Peter (Martha) Chmielewski of Youngstown, Ohio, Julia (Jack) Johnson of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Lawrence (Mabel) Chmielewski of Monte Creek, British Columbia, John (Margaret) Chmielewski of Pouce Coupe, British Columbia, Vicki (Floyd) Allen of Baldonnel, British Columbia, and sisters-in-law Jeanette and Helen Chmielewski and many special nieces and nephews.
Stella was predeceased by her parents Frank and Frances Bartosek, sister Lydia, brother Joe sister-in-law Yvonne Bartosek and brothers-in-law Frank Zachar, Paul and Frank Chmielewski.
