HENRY RENNER

1918 - 1999

C. Henry Renner, beloved husband of Ellen Renner of Taber, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family in Taber on Saturday, October 16, 1999 at the age of 81 years.
Henry was born in Taber on March 17, 1918 the son of Charles and Martha Renner. He received his schooling in Glenwood, Raymond and Taber. Henry married Ellen Boyd on February 8, 1947. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as a financial clerk under several Bishops and was also High Priests Quoram Secretary. For many years, Henry worked in the construction industry and worked at the coal tipple in Taber, where he lost part of his finger as a result of an accident. Following his construction years, he accepted a position as the caretaker of the Taber Post Office. Henry retired from this position in 1973 due to his war injuries. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in 1940 and trained in Canada, England and Scotland. In July of 1943 he departed for Sicily as part of the 89-109 Infantry Battallion. He was serving with the Lanark Renfrew Scottish when he was almost fatally wounded on December 13, 1944 in Ravena, Italy when he was struck by an exploding handgrenade. Henry very proudly wore his medals, the 1939-45 Star, the Italian Star, his defense Medal, his Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and Overseas bar and the Victory Medal. One of his most memorable moments of his life was last year when he was honored at the Remembrance Day Ceremony for his service in WWII.
He was very proud to go to the schools to relate some of his war experiences and to explain the meaning and importance of Remembrance Day to the younger generation. He also enjoyed watching hockey, baseball, boxing and wrestling.
Henry was best known for his honesty, his caring for his family and his love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed but always remembered by his family and friends.
Besides his loving wife Ellen, Henry leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Sharon (Hans) Sorensen and their family Kevin, Paul (Christie), Korie, Cody and Ian Sorensen; a son Charlie (Linda) Renner and their family Shelley (Robert) Tilleman, Robert Wesley, Clayton and Jade Tilleman, Stacey and Aidan Renner; Robin (Rob) Ducharme and Ethan and Dominique Ducharme and Erin Renner; a daughter Maureen (Ron) Sutka and their family Michelle (John) Winters, Jason and Troy Sutka; son James Renner and his special friend Joyce and her children Conrad and Brandon.
