JIM CHIPMAN

1938 - 1999

Dr. James Devere Chipman, Gwen’s beloved husband of thirty seven years, passed away on November 17, 1999.
Jim was born in Magrath on April 25, 1938. He received all of his schooling in Magrath and enjoyed sports, especially basketball. After high school, Jim worked at the bank in Barons and then for a finance company in Lethbridge. It was during that time that he met and married Gwen Beckett.
Jim attended Chiropractic College in St. Louis, Missourri and graduated in September, 1966. He established his practice in Taber in July of 1967. For the next thirty two years, he loved his profession and the opportunity it provided him to help so many people who became his friends.
Horses were Jim’s passion. He was instrumental in reorganizing the Alberta Quarter Horse Racing Association in the early seventies and served as president for several years. He raced an Alberta Champion and numerous horses since then.
During his early years in Taber, Jim was a volunteer fireman, a trainer for the Taber Chiefs hockey team and was a member of the Elks. Jim loved to hunt, fish, go camping and spend time with family and friends.
Jim leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Gwen and their four children Greg (Patti) Chipman of Taber, Janice (Mike) Richardson of Prince George, Shannon (Allan) Gieske of Lethbridge and Heather Chipman of Taber; seven very special grandchildren Dan, Mathew, Alex, Jen, Scott, Jill and Cody. He is also survived by one brother Ken (Dianne) Chipman of Orem, Utah, a sister Mary Kaye (Richard) Thomson of Magrath and a sister-in-law Karryn Chipman of Roy, Utah as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
