CON KAST

1917 - 2000

Clarence Kast of Grassy Lake, beloved husband of Madeline Kast, passed away in Taber on Friday, March 10, 2000 at the age of 82 years.
Con was born the son of Will and Lucy Kast in Lethbridge on October 19, 1917. Being raised and remaining in the Lethbridge area, he began to work on various farms. One of his responsibilities was to tend to the horses which he rode and worked with. Con became interested in horses but was especially fond of the horse he called “Rex”. He later served in the Canadian Active Army in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. While serving he was awarded an Oak Leaf Medal and was mentioned in dispatches. Following his return from the war, Con married Madeline Peterson on March 22, 1947. They farmed North of Lethbridge and then Hussar before moving to Grassy Lake in 1955. There he focused primarily on farming but was also employed doing other jobs including working along side of his sons in the land levelling business. Con will be remembered by his family and friends for his sense of humor and his unique way of combining his sense of humor with his “tell ‘em like it is” personality.
Besides his wife Madeline, he is survived by his children Melvin (Donna) Kast of Lethbridge; Sharon (Larry) Halter of Lethbridge; Frank (Margaret) Kast of Grassy Lake and Beverley (Les) MacDonald of Clive; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, a brother John Kast as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Con was predeceased by his parents, Will and Lucy Kast and step father Frank Wardman; an infant son Marvin; a sister Violet Williams and his brothers Floyd Kast, Harold Kast and Tom Wardman.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Monday, March 13, 2000 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at the Westview Community Church, Grassy Lake, on Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Ken Crassweller officiating. Interment followed at the Prairieview Cemetery, Grassy Lake.
