JOAN GALVIN

1920 - 2000

Frances Galvin, beloved wife of the late William Galvin, passed away in Fort McMurray on Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at the age of 79 years.
Joan was born in Newbury, Berks, England on May 10, 1920. She married William “Bill” Galvin in 1943 in Newbury, England and arrived in Canada as a war bride in 1946. She and Bill farmed south of Burdett and then in later years, just west of Taber.
Joan is survived by two daughters Eileen McIntyre and Kathy Aubichon; two grandsons Matthew and Justin McIntyre and a special friend and caregiver Arlene Roth all of Fort McMurray. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Norma Galvin, who was also a very special friend for over fifty years, as well as her brothers-in-law Robert “Bob” Galvin and Gene Galvin all of Taber; two sisters Edna Pearce and Eileen Paczko and brother Ron Etheridge all of Newbury, England. Several nieces and nephews, each of which were so special to “Aunty Joan”, also mourn her passing.
She was predeceased by her father Ernest and her mother Lily, as well as a brother Monty and was also predeceased by her husband Bill in 1974.
Joan was an active member of the Alberta War Brides Association, as well as a fifty Year member of the Catholic Women’s League, receiving her pin in 1997.
Joan had many close special friends. Due to ill health, she moved to Fort McMurray to be near her family, but her special friendships remained intact. She lived in Fort McMurray for less than a year, but acquired many new friendships in that short time that will always be cherished and remembered. She was a lovely lady that had time for anyone and loved to visit. Her two grandsons, Matthew and Justin, were her pride and joy, and they had no greater supporters than their “Grandma”.
Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, March 17, 2000 at 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, March 18, 2000 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Jim de los Angeles Celebrant. Interment followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
