RUTH MUELLER

1915 - 2000

Ruth Emily Mueller (nee Rogers), beloved wife of the late Art Mueller, passed away suddenly and peacefully at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Sunday, April 23, 2000 at the age of 85 years after a courageous battle with Alzheimers.
She is survived by her son Roger (Cherylanne) Mueller and grandchildren Amber and Joel Mueller of Lethbridge; a sister Helen (Tony) Lippa of Milk River; brothers George Rogers of Lethbridge, Fred Rogers of Lethbridge, and Charles (Shirley) Rogers of Nanton; sister-in-law Terry Rogers of Bassano; sister-in-law Violet Mueller of Lethbridge as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband Art Mueller in 1976, her parents Philip and Florence Rogers of the Milk River district, a brother Harold Rogers, sister-in-law Emily Rogers and by all eight of Art’s brothers and sisters.
Ruth Rogers was born January 24, 1915 in the Milk River district and received her education at the John Joe’s School as well as her high school in Coutts. In 1937/38, Ruth attended Normal School in Calgary and became a school teacher. She taught in one room schools for the first nine years - Fairlight School south of Winnifred in 1938-39, Sampson School south of Bow Island the next two years, Sleepy Hollow School east of Milk River for one year, Milk River School for one year and John Joe’s (her home school) west of Milk River for four years. She worked in the grocery store for Harold Moir in Milk River from 1946 to 1950.
Art and Ruth Mueller had a double wedding with George and Ida (nee Moir) Wilcox on November 20, 1950 in Southminster United Church in Lethbridge. From 1951 to 1958 Ruth taught in the Peace River Country - one year at Bridgeview School, south of Spirit River, and six years in Spirit River, then seven years at Rosebrier School near Wetaskiwin. In 1965 the family moved to Taber and Ruth taught Grade five at Central School in Taber from 1965 to 1979 when she retired after thirty seven years of teaching. Ruth received her Bachelor of Education degree in 1972.
Ruth’s hobbies included visiting with family and friends, travelling to several parts of the world, gardening, knitting, learning about things such as attending university classes after she already had her degree to learn more and helping others. She taught her grade five girls and boys how to knit and how to square dance. Ruth had a kind and gentle way. She was active in the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and attended Knox United Church in Taber. She represented Taber at several Senior Citizen Conventions in various Canadian cities over the years and enjoyed attending Retired Teacher’s meetings, as well as old time dances and the Annual Pemmican Ball. Ruth has resided with Roger and family for the past five years, while in failing health.
The Funeral Service was held at Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, April 29, 2000 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Ken Crassweller officiating. Interment followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
