JOHN LITTAU

1915 - 2001

John Littau of Vauxhall, passed away in Lethbridge on Monday, August 20, 2001 at the age of 85 years.
John was born on November 6, 1915 in Oklahoma, USA.
John took over the family farm and it became his life, but when the work was done he would gather with his friends and neighbours to shoot the breeze and of course the coffee was always on. When not telling tall tales you may find him playing cards, marbles or fishing with his family or playing practical jokes on his children, like snipe hunting. He enjoyed travelling, going back to Oklahoma and Texas to visit the original homestead, cousins and friends. He also took his family to Hungary and went to Germany twice when he was in his 80’s. As well he visited family in Alberta and B.C. He would be the first to lend a hand where needed and saw the humor in most everything. He will always be remembered as a down to earth man who loved life. We all have special memories of him and those memories and his spirit will always be with us.
John will be sadly missed by his children Elizabeth Susan (Dan) Schwenke, Margaret (Rick) Rushford, Ellie Jane (Earl) Grizzle and John G. Littau; five grandchildren Steven Watson, Melanie Rushford, Dusty Mathews, Samantha Mathews and Harley Grizzle; stepsons Joe (Holly) Madarazs and Charlie (Kim) Madarazs; the mother of his children, Elizabeth Littau; brothers and sisters Margaret Bechthold, Abe Littau, Jessie Dell, Ed Littau, Anne Heninger, Hank Littau and Will Littau and also by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother Jake, sister Mary and twin brothers David and Samuel in infancy.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, August 23, 2001 from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Friday, August 24, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. with Gerhard Reimer officiating. Burial followed in the Vauxhall Mennonite Cemetery.
