LAVONE JOHNSON

1904 - 2000

M. Lavone Johnson of Barnwell, beloved husband of the late Ellen Johnson, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2000 at the age of 96 years.
Lavone was born at Raymond on January 7, 1904 and was the son of James Francis Johnson and Rozina Richmond Johnson. In 1905 he moved to Barnwell with his family and in 1910 they moved to the United States, returning to Barnwell in 1925. He married Ellen Johnson December 11, 1929. Lavone farmed in the Branwell area for 45 years growning vegetables and sugar beets. He served on the Beet Growers Board and the Vegetable Growers Board and was an active member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed sports, particulary badminton.
Lavone will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his children Bruce (Ruth Ann) Johnson of Barnwell, Pat (Don) Harding of Taber and Catherine (Larry) Henry of Calgary; eighteen grandchildren Marquis Johnson, Greg (Brenda) Johnson, Loren (Cindy) Johnson, Tracy (Shelley) Johnson, Trevor (Sherry) Johnson, Nina (Dave) Ogles, Melvin (Celinda) Johnson, Rick Parnel, Terry (Twylla) Harding, Philip (Renee) Harding, Linda Collett, Debra (Steve) Hill, Barbara Harding, Michelle (Darrell) Vedres, Laura (Clarke) Bullock, Leslie (Jonathan) Crapo, Michael (Diane) Henry, Cameron (Kristi) Henry and Patti Jean (Kris) Nielson; fifty seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law Jessie Johnson, Geneva Stevens, Mabel Pizzey and Ollie Johnson.
He was predeceased by his wife Ellen and great granddaughter Vicki Lee Johnson.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, May 24, 2000 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. and also at the church prior to the funeral service from 12:00 P.M. to 12:45 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Barnwell Chapel on Thursday, May 25, 2000 at 1:00 P.M. with Bishop Marty Johnson conducting. Burial followed in the Barnwell Cemetery.
