1954 - 2017

 After many years of poor health, Marquis Lavone Johnson, passed away peacefully in Lethbridge on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the age of 62 years.

 Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday, February 18, 2017 between 10:00 A.M. and 10:40 A.M.

 The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Barnwell on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Burial followed at the Barnwell Cemetery. 

 Mark is survived by his mother Ruth Ann Johnson and his siblings Gregory (Brenda) Johnson of Lethbridge, Loren (Cindy) Johnson of Barnwell, Tracy (Shelly) Johnson of Calgary, Trevor (Cherie) Johnson of Taber, Nina (David) Ogles of Springville, Utah, Melvin (Anna) Johnson of Oak Grove, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews as well as a large extended family.

 He was predeceased by his father Bruce Lavone Johnson.

 Mark was born in Taber on March 24, 1954. His childhood home was Barnwell. He attended the Barnwell School, W.R. Myers High School and the University of Calgary where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in General Studies and a Master of Arts in Political Science. Through self study, he became an electronic technician for Solid State Geophysical of Calgary. He travelled extensively for his company in the rural areas of Alberta, some parts of British Columbia, Saskatchewan as well as Yemen, Trinidad and Louisiana. Due to ill health, he was forced to retire at a young age and returned to his home in Barnwell.  

 In spite of his physical condition, he found enjoyment for many years growing flowers and trees to enhance the beauty of this small village. Mark accumulated a large library of books as well as vinyl records of classical music. The last few months of his life, he resided at the Clearview Lodge where he was treated most kindly by the staff and residents. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
