VERN NELSON

1930 - 2005

Mr. Vernon Lawrence Nelson, beloved husband of Mrs. Linda Nelson of Burdett, passed away at the Bow Island Health Centre on Saturday, August 27, 2005 at the age of 74 years.
Vern was born September 1, 1930 in Bow Island, Alberta. He, along with twin brother Merle, were the youngest in their family of nine. Vern attended school at Brownsdale, a one room country school. In 1941, the school was closed and that fall, students were bussed to Burdett School. He then completed three years of high school in Bow Island. Vern married Linda Goldsbury of Nelson, British Columbia on February 1, 1963. Vern operated the family farm five miles south west of Burdett, maintaining their personal residence in Burdett until the time of his passing.
Besides his loving wife Linda, Vern will be remembered by his son Lyndon (Josephine) Nelson and their children Kennedy & Carter of Burdett, his daughter Carrie (Dan) Murphy of Calgary, his daughter Cheryl (Brian Courtice) Nelson and their children Kayla, Jessica & Shaylene of Calgary, his daughter Shawna (Steven Carfantan) Nelson, Shawna's son Brandon and Shawna & Steven's children Alyssa, Justin & Jaden of Kindersley, Saskatchewan, and by his son Jason (Heather) Nelson and their children Haley & Emma of Vernon, British Columbia. He is also survived by his brothers Merle (Ella) Nelson of Burdett, Norman Nelson of Rimby, his sister Myrtle Qually of Lethbridge, his sisters-in-law Joyce Nelson of Burdett, Katie Nelson of Bow Island and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Ole & Ellen Nelson, his brothers Morris Nelson and Walter Nelson, his sisters Evelyn Nelson, Violet Nelson and her husband Matt, Vivian and her husband Willis Johnston, his sister-in-law Esther Nelson and by his brother-in-law Walter Qually.
The Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrew's United Church, 139 - 2 Avenue West, Bow Island on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Sandra McMillan officiating. Interment to follow at the Burdett Cemetery.
