JOE VIK

1925 - 2004

Mr. Joseph Vik, beloved husband of Mrs. Mary Vik, of Taber, passed away peacefully, after a lengthy illness, on Monday, August 16, 2004 at the age of 79 years.
Joseph was born on April 26, 1925 in Megyuszo, Hungary and at the age of three immigrated to Canada with his family.  They settled in the Barnwell area where Joseph attended school and later farmed.  He served in the Army during World War II and on February 5, 1948 married Mary Fekete. Joseph worked for Calgary Power, Alberta Government Telephones and retired with Edmonton Telephones in 1986.  During the earlier years he enjoyed playing the accordion in a band.  He traveled to visit his homeland and relatives in Hungary.  He also enjoyed his gardening each summer.  Joe had a kind and loving nature and will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Besides his loving wife Mary, he is survived by three sons Bob (Carma) of Millet, Rick (Deborah) of Lethbridge and Len (Kathleen) of Calgary; a granddaughter Candice (Roy) of Red Deer; sister-in-law Betty (Elmer) Kun and family of Red Deer; brother-in-law Les (Ethel) Fekete and family of Taber; three brothers Bill (Winnie) and family of Rimbey, Barney (Tootsie) and family of Taber and George (Marilyn) and family of Chilliwack, B.C. and sister-in-law Helen Vik of Calgary.
Joseph was predeceased by his father Joseph Vik II, his mother Teresa Vik, brother Bert Vik, father-in-law Leslie Fekete Sr. and his mother-in-law Mary Fekete.
The Funeral Service will be held at Knox United Church, 4929-50 Ave., Taber on Friday, August 20, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Jim Lochhead officiating. Interment in Taber Memorial Garden.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Joe's name may be made to the Taber Hospital Foundation, 4326-50 Ave., Taber, Alberta T1G 1N9.
