MARLIN ANDERSON

1931 - 2009

The family of Marlin Reece Anderson is saddened at the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Marlin was born December 8, 1931 in Barnwell and passed away peacefully in Taber on November 25, 2009 at the age of 77 years.
Marlin is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joan (Selk) and his four children, Kip (Susan) of Kingman, Arizona, Karen Irwin of Barnwell, David (JoLynn) of Mesa, Arizona and Thomas (Brittney) of Mesa, Arizona. He will be sadly missed by his fifteen grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Marlin is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Baker and his sister-in-law, Carma Anderson both of Barnwell, his mother-in-law Marjorie Selk of Lethbridge and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including his in-laws from the Selk Family and the Einar Jensen Family.
Marlin was predeceased by his father Hillman Anderson and his mother Myrl Johnson Jensen, his brothers Melvin, Kenneth and Dennis and his father-in-law, Virgil Selk.
Marlin was born and raised in Barnwell. He lived most of his life in this community, serving numerous times on the Village Council and once as Mayor. He graduated from the U of L in 1975 with a B.Ed and taught for eighteen years in the Taber area until his retirement in 1993. He was a great supporter of high school athletics and had a passion for cars, golf, music and his family and many friends. He was generous and kind, and loved by all who knew him.
Marlin lived a Christ-centered life and many will remember him for his powerful voice and ability to teach the Gospel. He loved to teach from the scriptures and to share his testimony of Christ’s divinity and the Plan of Salvation. As a young man he served a mission to Denmark and later served with his wife in the Texas Dallas Mission and in the Alberta Temple. He served as Bishop of the Barnwell Ward and in the Taber Stake Presidency.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, December 4, 2009 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. and also at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday, December 5, 2009 between 9:30 A.M. and 10:40 A.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Barnwell on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Eric Jensen conducting. Burial to follow at the Barnwell Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the care given by Dr. Morley Wong and all the nurses and caregivers at the Renal Clinic in Lethbridge as well as those who cared for him recently in the Taber Hospital.
