BILL BROOKS

1921 - 2003

William Thomas (Bill) Brooks formerly of Grassy Lake, passed away at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Sunday, March 23, 2003 at the age of 81 years.
Bill was born in Medicine Hat on June 16, 1921. He was raised in Grassy Lake where he attended the Chamberlain School. Bill enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1941 and his unit the 112 Light AntiAircraft Battery was sent to England after training. He was posted along the English Channel at Aldershot until the invasion when his unit was sent to France, Holland and Germany during the European Campaign. When the war ended he returned to Grassy Lake and gained employment with Continental Coal who had opened the mines in Grassy Lake. Bill moved to Lethbridge and was employed as an assistant manager with Eatons for several years. He moved to Medicine Hat where he worked with Lesks Mens Wear and Gardyne Shoes. In the early 1970’s Bill moved to Calgary and attended the Culinary Arts program at SAIT, and began employment with the Palliser Hotel where he worked as a chef until his retirement in 1984. Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Royal Canadian Legion. In September of 2002, he moved to Lethbridge to be closer to his family and had resided there until the time of his passing.
Bill is survived by his sisters Ann McMillan of Medicine Hat and Joyce (Bill) Thomas of Warner; brother John (Joan) of Lethbridge and sixteen nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Sara Brooks of Grassy Lake; a brother, Samuel Brooks of Grassy Lake and sisters, Mary Easthope of Taber and Nell Kinniburgh of Purple Springs.
The Funeral Service was held at the Westview Community Church, Grassy Lake on Friday, March 28, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Kris Peters officiating. Interment followed in the Prairieview Cemetery.
