DORIS VANCLEAVE

1930 - 2003

Doris Vivian Vancleave, beloved wife of Bud Vancleave of Fincastle, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, April 11, 2003 at the age of 72 years.
Doris’ rodeo career spanned many years. Besides being a rodeo wife, mom had many accomplishments of her own. She secretaried her first rodeo in Rockglen, Saskatchewan in 1957 and her final secretarial job was at Medicine Hat, Alberta in 2002. Mom timed the Canadian Finals Rodeo from its inception in 1973 to 1975. She went on to secretary the CFR from 1979 to 1982. Mom was the emcee for the CFR Ladies Fashion Show beginning in 1973 and for several years following. Doris was both respected and loved by all in the Rodeo world.
Doris was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion #20, especially winning meat on Friday nights. Doris was also an avid bowler with many accomplishments including being chosen MVP for 2002. She was mainly interested in the grandchildrens activities doing lots of cheering at hockey games, swim meets, curling matches and barrel racings. She was the organizer at all family functions, getting everyone together at the homestead at Fincastle. Mom was a gifted speaker and poet and an all round popular gal.
Doris will be forever remembered and loved by her husband Bud; children Philip (Sue) Vancleave of Nanton, Dalyce (Jim) Hubek of Coalhurst and Shelley (Ron) Jumpsen of Bassano; four grandchildren Lace, Logan, Clayton and Lane; brothers and sisters Duke (Eltie) Helgerson of Raymond, Lois Conacher of Calgary, Della (Dennis) Johnson of Great Falls, Montana and Phillip Mark (Carole) Helgerson of Pocatello, Idaho. Doris is also survived by Bud’s brothers and sisters Correen Abell, Dickie (Pete) Engleson and Toots (Herb) Engleson all of Taber, Joe (Corine) Vancleave of Airdrie and Bette (Don) Steely of Clements, California.
The Funeral Service was held at Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Jim Lochhead officiating. Interment followed in the Taber Memorial Garden.
