BESSIE NAGURNY

1916 - 2003

Bessie Nagurny passed away at the Taber Continuing Care Facility on Sunday, July 20, 2003 at the age of 86 years.
Bessie was born in Lethbridge and raised in the Eight Mile Lake District. As a young girl her most enjoyable chore was to herd the cattle to and from the pasture on her favorite horse “Nick”. When she was a young woman she gained employment on the “McIntyre Ranch” where she was a cook. Her knowledge and skills in the kitchen were evident as she ensured that the large crews were “fed and watered” in an efficient manner so they could carry on with their tasks in the field. Bessie was proud of this achievement and always had fond memories of those times. In later years she married Joseph Nagurny and began their new lives together farming in the Skiff area. Working along side her husband, she also raised their family and tended to her flourishing garden of flowers and vegetables...especially her tomatoes. Her previous experience as a cook came in handy as she raised a family of four children. She would bake and cook for her family and friends and it never went by unnoticed... to this day people still remember Bessie and say “could your mom cook!” Bessie will be forever remembered for her strength and tenacity and will remain an inspiration for those she left behind.
Cherishing her memory are her children, Joe Nagurny of Skiff; Trish Corns (Jim Bonette) of Taber and Connie (Mark) Birch of Grassy Lake; grandchildren Warren Nagurny, Jennifer Corns, Adam and Sarah Patton, Rebecca Birch, Annie Greeno, Deborah Bottcher and great-grandson Joshua. Bessie is also survived by three sisters, Margaret (Nick) Borisow, Adele Stanko and Violet Baer as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bessie was predeceased by her husband Joseph; a son, Mitchel and a brother Adolf Wronski.
Relatives and friends were invited for Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. with Deacon Mike Whalen officiating. Interment followed in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge.
