To all her family and friends, she was affectionately known as “Baba”, which is Grandma in Ukrainian.
Besides her loving husband Larry, Baba is survived by her children Lowell (Irene) of Foremost and their children, Andrea, Dustin and Courtney; Wendy (Rick) Thurston of Bow Island and their children Jill, Ryan and Marty and Ruby (Ric) Emshey of Pincher Creek and their children Jan and Jeff. Sabina was predeceased by her parents Anton and Victoria Nawolski and Nick Dubasov, a brother-in-law.
Baba was born in Cote, Saskatchewan on February 18, 1930. She trained as a teacher at the Moose Jaw Normal School. She started teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Saskatchewan and during that time met Larry, who she later married. Her teaching career spanned thirty one years and during that time she influenced hundreds of young lives.
Her greatest joy was her eight grandchildren, whom she “spoiled” whenever she could. Some of her many interests included crocheting, making wool quilts and spending every weekend in the spring and summer golfing and camping at Indian Hills with the “Crew”. On occasion, she was known to enjoy the sights and sounds of Reno, Nevada. Baba made a huge impact on all those who met her and she will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends were invited for Prayers at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1113 - 1 Street East, Bow Island on Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at 9:00 P.M.
