VLASTA SKARIOT

1941 - 2002

Our wonderful Mom, Grandmother and friend, Mrs. Vlasta Skariot of Taber, passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Friday, May 3, 2002 at the age of 61 years following a courageous battle with cancer.
Vlasta was born on January 1, 1941 in Golubnjak, Croatia. On August 5, 1960 she married Angelo Skariot in France. A year later in 1961, they immigrated to Canada with their six month old daughter, Danica. Vlasta worked tirelessly for many years to help provide a comfortable home for her small family. She retired from Hostess Frito Lay in February of 1998 after twenty years of dedicated service. She was a happy homemaker and enjoyed all the tasks involved with raising a family. She loved to cook and bake for her family and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Our mother took great pleasure in gardening, travel, going for walks, dancing and an occasional game of bingo but the time she spent with her grandsons were most precious to her. She was affectionately known to her grandchildren as “BABA”. She was a devoted member of St. Augustine’s Parish in Taber and treasured the church and people within. Vlasta will be forever loved and remembered in the hearts of her family and friends.
Vlasta leaves behind to remember and celebrate her life, her two daughters, Danica Duval and her sons, Kenneth and Kevin of Lethbridge and Kathy (Darrell) Uttley and their son Bryce of Whitecourt, Alberta; her sisters, Anna (Zdenko) Pihir of Winnipeg, Marinaka (Slavko) Patek of Zagreb of Croatia and a sister-in-law Dragica Zeman as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Vlasta was predeceased by her husband Angelo in February of 2000; a brother Veno Zeman and her parents John and Sofia Zeman.
Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at 7:00 P.M. with Deacon Mike & Yvette Whalen officiating.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Jim de los Angeles Celebrant. Interment followed in the Taber memorial Garden.
