HOWARD CHRISTENSEN

1920 - 2002

Howard Frederick Christensen of Taber, beloved husband of the late Verna Christensen, passed away peacefully at the Extended Care of the Taber Hospital on Saturday, August 3, 2002 at the age of 82 years.
Howard will be lovingly remembered by his children; Marie (Gerald) Rombough of Taber, Pat Christensen of Calgary, Sharon (Doug) Craik of Stirling, Bruce (Faye) Christensen of Taber, Barb (Terry) Kerkhoff of Picture Butte and David Christensen of Kelowna; eight grandchildren Jaire Rombough, Ryan (Tammy) Rombough, Bona (Kevin) Schmidt, Butch Rombough, Kent Kerkhoff, Kyle Kerkhoff, Brent Christensen and Mark Christensen; seven great grandchildren; brother Dennis (Colleen) Christensen of Bountiful, Utah; sister Sheila (Jerry) Palmer of Calgary; sister-in-law Jean Christensen of Medicine Hat as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. He is also survived by Verna’s family; sister-in-law Eileen Skaluba and brothers-in-law Stan Skaluba and John (Ruby) Skaluba all of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Victor Skaluba of Calgary and sister-in-law Sister Benigna S.S.M.I. of Mundare, Alberta.
Howard was predeceased by his wife Verna in 1997; brothers Russell and Bob and sisters Marion and Freda.
Howard was born in Taber on July 13, 1920 and spent most of his life in the Whitla and Taber areas. He enlisted in the R.C.A.F. in 1940, serving overseas until 1945. In his younger years he was involved in Taber’s musical theatre and will be remembered by many for his musical renditions on the piano and accordion, and his beautiful singing voice. He married Verna Skaluba on August 11, 1947 and together they raised their family in Walsh, Medicine Hat and since 1959, Taber, where he resided until his passing. Howard was a long time employee of McDonald Chev Olds, retiring in 1978. He was an active member of the Taber Legion and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Relatives and friends were invited for Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Monday, August 5, 2002 at 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, August 6 2002 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Eric Nelson Celebrant. Interment followed in the Taber Memorial Garden.
