HARVEY BLANEY

1932 - 2001

Harvey James Blaney, beloved husband of the late Lena Blaney, passed away in Taber on Saturday, March 24, 2001 at the age of 94 years.
Harvey was born in Milestone, Saskatchewan on September 4, 1906. He married Lena Marion Brehm on February 17, 1932 and in August of 1945 they moved from Medicine Hat to Vauxhall. They purchased the Red & White Store and in 1957 changed the name to Blaney’s Fine Foods. Harvey was a member of the Kinsmen Club, Curling Club and the Golf Club and was a baseball enthusiast. He served on the Vauxhall Town Council for twelve years and was the Mayor from 1973 to 1975. Lena passed away in 1995 and in March, 1999 Harvey became a resident of Clearview Lodge in Taber. In his retirement years he enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing and curling.
Harvey will be forever missed by his children Loretta Beglaw of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Ken (Myrna) Blaney of Vauxhall and Marvin (Donna) Blaney of Sherwood Park; eight grandchildren Cheryl (Frank), Marilyn (Tom) and Wayne (Julie), Darren (Carmen) and Kendra (Doug), Jody (Darren), Jason and Jeff; ten great grandchildren and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Lena he was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.
The Funeral Service was held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 2 Avenue North, Vauxhall on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Yvonne Mills, of the United Church Of Canada, officiating. Interment followed in the Vauxhall Cemetery.
