JOE KACER

1903 - 2001

Josef (Joe) Kacer, beloved husband of the late Mary Kacer passed away peacefully in Taber on Saturday, May 12, 2001 at the age of 98 years.
Joe was born on April 5, 1903 in Liderovice, Morava Czech Republic. He came to Canada in March of 1926 to the Barnwell area. On November 13, 1927 he married Mary Frolka. In the fall of 1929 they moved to the Cranford area where they purchased a farm. Joe remained on the farm until the age of ninety five. For the past few years Joe had resided at the Taber Continuing Care facility.
Joe is survived by his daughter Bessie (Steve) Sutka of Cranford; two grandsons Ron (Maureen) Sutka and Jerry Sutka; three great-grandchildren, Michelle (John) Winters, Jason and Troy; one great-great-granddaughter Kallista Winters. Joe is also survived by one sister Mary Studenka of the Czech Republic as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary in 1982; parents, Martin and Elizabeth Kacer; four brothers, John, Frank, Florian and Antonin and a sister Jenny Zalesak.
Joe enjoyed his many years of farming. After retiring he spent his retirement years gardening, fishing, hunting and playing on his harmonica. His family and friends enjoyed hearing his many stories of the changes he seen in his ninety years.
Relatives and friends were invited for Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Denis Rowan Celebrant. Interment followed in the Taber Memorial Garden.
