JOHN ENNS

1914 - 2001

John D. Enns of Taber, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2001 at the age of 86 years.
Uncle John was born the son of David and Aganetia Enns on September 16, 1914 in Blumstein, South Russia. In 1926 he came to Canada, first residing in Manitoba and later moving to the Vauxhall area in 1933 where he purchased a quarter section of land. He sold the land in 1940 but continued to farm some land he rented in Skiff and Wardlow. A few years later he went to work for Henry Matteotti in the Peace River, Alberta area. In 1970, John moved to Claresholm where he resided for many years. For the past few years, John has resided at the Clearview Lodge in Taber. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his special friend, Mary Thompson. Together they would spend many hours driving his Cadillac (which was John’s pride and joy) around the countryside and mountains taking in the scenery, looking for bluebirds and the wild game life that roam those areas. In his travels he also liked to stop at museums and historical points of interest and reminisce about old times and enjoy the heritage. John’s real passion in life was farming...especially harvest. For hours on end he would drive combine. John would be the first one to start combining and the last one to stop. During short breaks he would hop into one of his coworkers units and start driving again. This was an ongoing ritual that John would do to keep things interesting, fun and everyone on their toes.
John will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews, Kathy (John) Odland, Albert H. Enns, Mary (Ernie) Zuba, Wally (Edna) Enns, Agnes Mikalson, Martha (Lloyd) Crowson and Pete Enns; a step-sister Mary Heidebrecht; a sister-in-law Erika Klassen and her family in Germany. John is also survived by numerous great-nieces and nephews and friends at the Clearview Lodge. He was predeceased by his brothers Jake, Dave and George and a special friend Mary Thompson. Uncle John loved life and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. So long Uncle...’till we meet again.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, June 5, 2001 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
