JENNY KONING

1924 - 2001

Jennie Koning (Oudman) of Taber, beloved wife of the late John Koning, passed away to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 7, 2001.
Jennie was born in the Netherlands, Stitswerd, Groningen, on May 22, 1924. She came to Canada with her parents and five sisters in May, 1950, and settled in Taber. After working a couple of years in the sugar beets, she went to the R.B.C. (Reformed Bible College) in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. In 1956 she began her training to become a nurse and worked for a few years in the Taber Hospital. In 1961, she went to Victoria, British Columbia where she worked in St. Joseph’s Hospital until the spring of 1972, when she married John Koning, a widower from Chino, California, who was the father of Jennie’s four step-children. John predeceased her in 1984. Due to failing health, Jennie returned to Taber in May, 1997. She resided at the Taber Continuing Care until her passing.
Jennie will be remembered by her four step-children Tom Koning and family of Kettle Falls, Washington, John Koning and family of Norco, California, Walter and Lois Koning and family of Detroit, Michigan. and Alice and John deVries of Sulphur Bluff, Texas; brothers and sisters John Oudman of Lacombe, Arie and Leny Oudman of Groningen, The Netherlands, Hilda Zuidhof of Lacombe, Homer and Betty Oudman of Taber, Walter and Maria Smith of Chemainus, British Columbia, Stanley and Correy Kimm of Three Forks, Montana, Tim and Tina Bouwsema of Lethbridge, Dick and Pearl Alting of Taber and Albert and Cobie Donkerbroek of Taber as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Following a Private Family Interment Service, relatives and friends gathered to celebrate Jennie’s life with a memorial service at the First Christian Reformed Church, 3902 Heritage Drive, Taber on Monday, August 13, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Mike Vandyk officiating.
