JAY EDWARDS

1918 - 2008

Alfred Jay Edwards, beloved husband of the late Violet Edwards, passed away at the St. Michael’s Health Centre in Lethbridge on Friday, April 4, 2008 at the age of 89 years.
Jay was born in Taber on December 29, 1918 to George “Jud” and Dora Edwards. He met and later married Violet in July of 1940. They lived in Taber most of their lives until Jay retired. While residing in Taber, Jay was active in the community, serving as President of the Royal Canadian Legion and also as Fire Chief for several years. After retiring they moved to Fort Macleod where he continued his passions which included playing golf, wood working, spending time with family or holidaying with Thora & Neil.
Jay is survived by two sons, Garry (Denise) Edwards of Lethbridge, Rick (Jane) Edwards of Calgary; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandson. He is also survived by two sisters, Thora (Neil) Garvin of Red Deer, Carol (Herb) MacLean of Tacoma, Washington; sister-in-law Lenore Edwards of Cranbrook, brother-in-law Ted Milligan of Red Deer and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Violet, parents George and Dora Edwards, sister Rhea Milligan; two brothers Joe Edwards, Lawrence Edwards and sister-in-law Berti Edwards.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Taber Memorial Garden.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at St. Michael’s Health Centre for all their special care and attention. Also, special thanks to Nancy Van Deurzen of Hands That Help for the compassion shown over the years as Jay’s companion; you are a special person and will always be a part of our family.
